Default Chaser(s) - What Did You Think of Last Night's Show?

Watching it last night it was clear to see just how appalling APEC security was. I think the lads just showed with all the money spent on security was a joke. Were the police told not to check the ID's of everyone? It makes me wonder how safe are our military bases? What a shame that the rest of the show was such sub standard unfunny crap. The Irwin sketch was disrespectful and in very poor taste.

    An article from news.com.au

THE Chaser's APEC motorcade stunt has proved a major ratings sucess for the ABC, helping to pull in 2.24 million viewers for last night's TV show. The audience for last night's The Chaser's War on Eveything was the biggest ever for the satirical show, well ahead of its previous best last week of 1.5 million, and one of the best ever for a single ABC show. The only ABC program to have drawn a bigger audience was the finale of the popular drama Sea Change.

The Chaser crew earned worldwide media coverage last week when they infiltrated security at APEC with a fake motorcade and one of their number dressed as Osama bin Laden. Last night's program showed footage of the spoof motorcade being waved through two security checkpoints, which the comedians said were more like a "guard of honour", on its way towards the hotel where US President George W. Bush was staying. Eleven Chaser members were later charged with entering a restricted area without justification. They will appear in court next month and face a maximum penalty of six months' jail, but plan to fight the charges.

The Irwin thing let down an otherwise great show, but there again so did the disgraceful scene at the Chinese Embassy. Once again, innocent people were made the mark.

Ditto the moving house on the bus thing was taken too far. The joke was a good one, but there was no need to continue to load the thing and disrupt everyone's lives once they'd made the point and milked the laugh.

The problem with looking for the edge with everything they do, is that they often go past it.

On balance, a very clever show, spoilt by a few blots. The Stairway to Kevin song really hit the core.

    cheers,

    P

these boys can sometimes be very very funny... stairway to kevin!!

but agree they cross the line tooooo often... they could go to jail for being prats

surely there's enough out there to laugh at without victimising innocents

    The Chasers are great.

Who cares if they offend people. I'm sure Graham Kennedy, Bert Newton, Monty Python, The Goons, Saturday Night Live ad nauseum all have offended people. As a matter of fact, show me a comedy act who hasn't offended someone and I'll show you a comedy act out of business.

I mean at least the Chinese bureaucrats have had their 15 seconds of fame, and with Bindi Irwin the Chasers are naming the Elephant there!!! And what about all those politicians getting snotty because the Chasers dare to rub their own spin back in their faces....... should be more of it I reckon.

    More power to them!!!!

I find their stuff a bit juvenile most of the time (A bit like my behaviour on these forums ), and I was more interested in the Airline disaster show, so I gave it a miss.
Has anyone got a youtube link to the APEC stuff? I imagine it would be up there pretty soon.

I find that even when the joke falls flat I still have a smile on my face because they don't seem to mind either way.

But as has been said before when they do hit the mark it is precious.

You also have to give them kudos for bravery- who here would dare to go up to Anthony Mundine at the Lakemba mosque wearing boxing gloves?

Even that APEC stunt took a lot of courage.

I never miss a show. Oh If anyone has seen a transcript for the Stairway To Keven I'd love to see all the lyrics I was laughing so hard I missed some of them.

Their play that they did "Dead Caesar" was pretty good in an undergraduate humour sort of way.

Thanks for reminding me of that song namtrak. One of the funniest skits that I can remember them doing was a blind taste test (disproving the Pepsi one) where they blindfolded people and got them to drink two glass of water, one with this bloody big dead fish in it.
