Default Why are things so Complicated?

Going away in August for 4 months. Licence falls due in October. Can I renew in advance?

    No sir.

    Why not?

    System doesn't cope.

Try again later, different person. Yep, no problem sir.

We own xyz car and it is registered in the names of SWMBO and self. Insured for under 25 driver son. (Cheaper you see). He has already copped the consequences of Plumbium of the foot. Can we sign a stat dec to say we will be away and any fines should be registered to said son?

    No sir.

    Why?

System can't handle that sort of variation.

Your son will have to pay any fines and you will have to sign stat dec and provide evidence of absense when you get back and redeem any point s lost on your licence then.

I guess that will take some time?

    Probably.

So what If my son loses my licence in my absence? What then?

Well sir, like I've already explained, you will have to sign a stat.dec.

I am so glad I don't fit the system!!

Get thee to thine library. Have a squint at "The Law of Delay" by C. Northcote (sp?) Parkinson - the same Parkinson as Parkinson's Law, which states that work expands to fill the time available; a corollary states that the work expands beyond that.

My parents recently moved into a nursing home, and I went into the RTA to ask if I could change their address details.

Had Dad's licence, Power of Attorney, proof of my address (for use as their mailing address), their nursing home contract for proof of their address, etc. etc.

    Could I change their address?
    Nope!

However, the helpful man told me that if I called the 13xxxx number on the back of every licence, I could change it over the phone!

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Arriving at Melbourne airport 10pm, goto hire car counter to pick up car - drivers licence missing from wallet! Next day ring Perth, how do I get a replacement licence - I have to write them a letter telling them what my drivers licence number is - but I don't know it because I lost it! I also have to provide certified copies of a bunch of identification documents and pay $25! If I can find the number can I get someone else to do all this for me. Yes, but I have to write them a letter authorising that person to do it! Can I send them a fax - no - why not? - otherwise everyone will want to do it!

Later I find out that if your licence is stolen you don't need to provide the number or the identification documents and it costs you nothing. However you do have to provide a police report of the theft!

Here we have an insurance term "Mysterious Disappearance" that means something was left out and someone with sticky fingers copped it. To my way of thinking, Mysterious Disappearance would be a legitimate way to report your missing license to the locals.

    Default Would you believe...?

I had a win on the licence renewal!!!!
Went to the Dept. Transport in Woodrige a few weeks back and they suggested I come back about a month before leaving and they woul deal with it. Went in today, told the yoyng fellow what I wanted to do and he was all over it like a rash. Gave me my numbered ticket and the young lass sorted things out very quickly.
Until the question about eyesight! I lost my left eye at the age of 6. Every bloody government dep. in Australia has it on their records! Well evry 5 years when I renew my licence this becomes a problem Gets a bit tedious. I was told the rules are continually changing and because I Have a Type 0 Class HR & R licence I need to have my single good eye tested by an optometrist. Luckily I was allowed to downgrade my licence so I could get the International permit immediately AND a not was made on my file to say that that I could have my optometrical assessment when I came back so that my Hr class licence could be reinstated

Maybe there is a god afterall!!!
