By now everyone knows Former Pres.Ronald Regan has died .He was a nice man and through his personality, made us a good leader. Sorry to see him pass. Does the French Pres. hate us americans so much that he will not convers with Tex in english? I wish all lthe biggies would get together and settle thier differences. Its N.Korea, and perhaps China(If Tiawan gets to be a problem) that the world has to worry about. There is no sloution to the mid east crisis. Iran,Iraq,Turkey,Greece have battling since biblical times,Israel since1940s. I pray that all hostilities cease,b ut realistic enough to know that won't happen. I was called up in the first Iraq operation and I know its no picnic. Whats the Aussie take on this?

I think that as long as mankind has sticks and stones to hurl at each other, then we will hurl.

There seems to be a mistrust from one people to another for no apparent reason, other than not understanding the others needs.

Can someone play the Desiderata in the background about now please?

Does the French Pres. hate us americans so much that he will not convers with Tex in english?
I wonder if a little Fro...err French woodworker is currently posting in an other language somewhere in the world except he's probably asking "Does the US Pres. hate us French so much that he will not converse with us in French?"

I wish all lthe biggies would get together and settle thier differences.
Nice thought, but I don't like the methods they use to settle them.

No point worrying about things that aren't under your control.

No point believing everything (or for that matter anything) you read in the press...particularly in the country in which one lives.

Either run for President and fix it, or keep making shavings, cause worrying can't help!

    On that cheery note.

Look, I hate to get all political, but if someone swept up all those sticks and stones then there would be no problem.

...and there'd be plenty of materials for woodworkers and stone masons too!

    dtoggs.

My Aussie take is that if President Bush is in France he should have the good manners to speak French. But then I expect he probably felt that partying was more important, when he was at Harvard, than learning French. For Americans to assume that the French President should be expected to speak English when he is in his own country demonstrates how out of touch they are with the rest of the world.

    Dtoggs,

In a previous job that I had I was required to travel to many countries where Engish is not a first language, In every case I tried to learn a few phrases, so that I can say thank you, hello, how much for those tools, etc.. I don't profess to be any form of linguist, infact I can only speak two languages English and my native language (serbo-croat). I was lucky with the people I met in that most of the time they were university students who wished to practice their English on me, so did not have problems communicating. I did not however expect this nor should I have. So when you ask the question ,
Does the French Pres. hate us americans so much that he will not convers with Tex in english?
    ,
my answer is, why the heck should the French President have to speak English in his own country. Surely the US president has heard the term "when in Rome do as the Romans do", or in this case, When in France speak as the French do.

    regards,

Billy Connolly for a true ambassador, when he gets exited no one understands him (except me as he is from my country of origin and I have to translate for the family) and he smiles at the same time. He must be good.

The term 'grammar nazi' was invented to make people, who don't know their grammar, feel OK about being uneducated.
