    Default Fax machine problem

    Hi guys,
I have just lashed out & bought a fax/printer/scanner combo for home. I tried a local fax yesterday without problem but today I tried to fax a business in USA without luck. I just get an error message without any detail to find what the error is.
It seems to dial ok, I hear the ringing at the other end, hear the 'handshake' tones, my fax starts sending, then bombs out part way through.
I assume they would leave their fax on at night.
Is there anyone on the forum in USA who has a fax machine I could try sending to to eliminate / confirm the problem maybe being my recipients machine?
If so can you pm me a fax number I can call

    Thank you

    Neil

Are you using 0011 or 0015?

0015 is for international fax sending, but Telstra does a p**s poor job of advertising it. 0011 is intended for voice and doesn't filter interference that may upset fax machines.

Yep, used 0015, also there was a setting on the fax for overseas transmit which didn't help either.

This is going back a while... But a group III should be able to talk to any group III. If I had to guess, I would say that there is compression algorithum being used by the under seas cable carrier and the decompression just isn't right. It could also be the delays in the international call causing problems with the fax protocol handshake.

My suggestion is to scan (not fax) into your computer and then send the image as an e-mail attachment. It has to be a lot cheaper than paying the international call rates.
