    Default Finger lick'n good

    Prostate test!!!!

Hi all, now that Ive your attention.
If like me, you are getting to the age where every man and his dog tells you to get your prostrate tested, then relax.
I had mine tested last week, and no, there is no need to panic or feel embarrased about asking you Dr to do the test.

Its all done with a blood test , thank god for that.
In fact, he tested for umteen different things, and told me Im so fit that I should cancel all my life and health insurance cover.
He even wants to bottle my blood.

    Cheers Al

So your blood is worth bottling.

Maybe a new specialty line for the Craporium, in an alfoil container of course.

    Dear Al,
Please forward 20 litres of your blood by first available courier.
I assume the alfoil containers are approved for dangerous goods. Also I do hope that it will not damage the substrate timber from which the paint is to be removed.

Four year ago I was diagnosed with PROSTATE CANCER.

I took a bit of pressure from me to have the Doctor do a test. I was having some problems with my water-works, and a digital check by the doctor found the prostate to be hardened and enlarged.

Now this diagnosis does not mean cancer by itself as the prostate enlarges for many reasons in older blokes. (here is the rub fellas, women can't get prostate cancer but men can get breast cancer)

I had a blood test, a PSA it is called, Prostate specific antigens and my reading was 4.5. Not high, but sufficient to cause the following:

The doctors have a chart and they look at your age, your PSA and a couple of other things and then give you a rating. Mine was High chance of having prostate cancer.

The next step is the biopsy - Hell it hurt. They put a thing up the rear end and when they get to the spot they fire a plunger that digs into the Prostate gland and takes a sample. 6 shots I endured with tears running down my face.

The biopsy returned positive. 14 August 2000 (the first annaversary of the death of a lady I was with who died from Pancreatic cancer) It took 12 months before the local doctors decided to send me to a specialist with the idea of treatment.

I arrived in Sydney March, 4 years ago and stayed at the accomadation, at Greenwhich, supplied by the efforts of the Lions Clubs around the country.

My radical radiation took seven weeks - one 15 min, session each day except weekends and holidays. The rest of the time you have to find things to do to keep yourself from going crazy, with me it didn't work, as you all know.

Radical Radiation means radiation with the intention of curing the cancer. My PSA has been 1.2 for the last four years. Regular digital checks are also preformed by a lady specialist, Dr Donavan, who visits Coffs Harbour once a month.

Fellas, get regular check ups if you are over 50 because they say that if you are 50 a 50% chance exists that you wil have the cancer cells. If you are 60 a 60% chance and so on.

My advice, don't be a fool, get regular checks and 2 you control your health care, don't just let the doctors tell you what is going to happen, if you are not satisfied, you must speak up.

I am sorry fellas for taking up so much of your time, but I have been there done that.

    Sorry Peter.

I didnt mean to offend, but I do think like yourself, it is wise for us older dudes to get "IT" checked.
There is nothing to be embarrased about.
    So get it checked.

I know I joke and bshit alot, but this is serious.

    Cheers, Al

No offence taken AL. I think you may have done a community service.

With my PSA at 1.2 I am as happy as a dog with two tails, but I have tried to get Dr Donavan to cut her fingernails!!!!! Ouch!!

A bloke dying of Prostate cancer would show a PSA of around 2000 in the late stages. The big problem that it can get out to other parts of the body.

Don't mean to frighten, just making you aware.

PS Those 3 greenies on Peter R the newbies post, can I have 'em on the real Peter R site - Will the real Peter R please stand up. Just Joking, don't want another reddie.

When I had the digital test done a few years ago (due again actually), the doctor said I should pretend that I'd just dropped two dollars in Oxford St

Having two older brothers who have this cancer I have been getting mine checked every year for the last 6 years.

No medical test is enjoyable but if the cancer is detected early enough you stand a much better chance.

Just wondering... Can I take a hardened prostate and turn it on my lathe like a tugua nut? You didn't by any chance save it did you. If anyone else has a hardened prostate could ya hold off on having it treated till it gets to the size of an orange. I think it would be much easier to turn if it were bigger:eek:

Have you tried putting your nut on the lathe and turning it like a hardened prostate.

    Would produce more sawdust anyway

    MatthewA,
I don't know if all Canadians have a sense of humour like yours, but you're going to fit into Australia very easily if humour is any measure.

Kick it along the footpath until you reach George Street and then bend over and pick it up.

    Peter, Peter, Al,
Hear, bloody hear! All you blokes should at least have a PSA done every few years. Mine was done as a part of the regular blood test check my GP sends me for. PSA was up and increasing on a subsequent check, biopsy (uncomfortable but not overly) showed agressive cancer. SAVED MY LIFE!
    You're mad if you don't have a test if you're over 50.
    Cheers,
    Graeme
