Default Fixing timber to a gal post

I need to attach a piece of timber 45mm thick and 1000mm long to a 90mm diameter galvanised steel post.

It will eventually hold a gate which will be very heavy - so the two requirements are that it be extremely strong and that the fixing be relatively unobtrusive as it’s in a high traffic spot (so just aesthetically pleasant).

Naturally I want to minimise the number and size of any holes in the pipe.

What is the best fixing for this? Previously I used Dynabolts but i just want to check that there isn’t something better designed for the purpose.

    Cheers

You can use gal batten screws. Just pre drill a 5.5mm hole in the post first.
