    Default generators

Our house has a garage underneath which would get flooded if it weren't for the 2 electric pumps that pump water from a sump up to the road.

During the storms last week we lost power for a while (luckily not too long!) and it got me thinking about alternative energy sources.

Does anyone have experience of using standby generators that switch over when mains power fails? What sort of price are they? Any recommendations?

Tony, we used to have an 8Kva Honda setup with auto cut-in etc. From memory the costs for the sparky were almost as much as the bloody alternator.

The Honda was a fantastic unit.

Why not buy a cheap pump with a petrol motor (~$200) and some pipe.
    You can use it anywhere.
