A Ginger Cat Day

A ginger male cat (uncut) has set himself up here as his chosen place of residence.
Not Feral....he can hear a fridge opening from 300 metres. Generally nice, and looks after his patch.......treed a visiting Staffordshire Bull Terrier a couple of weeks ago.
Anyway,the decision is made that he should be de-sexed.......the bush is full of ginger kittens.
Today was the day. So into the cat carrier he went....into the car.....and off to the vet 25 Km away.
About 2 minutes into the drive he started to yowl a bit....and then a lot more. There was a grinding crunching noise as he desintegrated the cat carrier, and then he proceeded to whizz around the car, claws drawn and making a hell of a racket. Oh Well..keep driving.
I arrived at the vet, and when he went under the seat, I dived out and asked for assistance from the vet.
" No Probs" says the vet, and suitably gloved he got into the car with a new cat carrier.
I went into the office to give the details to the receptionist, and ask that whilst he was under could they remove a cat's claw from up his nose....little details like that.
After a few minutes, the receptionist looks out the door.....says a little expletive....and says....."can you give the vet a hand" .
I go out to find the vet holding the cat by the neck....yelling......"I can't get out". His arms where the gloves don't reach are a mess. His cat carrier has a big hole in the top.......He's hit the child lock....keys are in the car.....I can't get in.....cat's screaming by now.
All I can say is "Turn the ignition on".....well I have been told a few times before....but never so loudly.
Eventually, the key gets turned....more blood....more cat screaming.....I take my shirt off.....open the door....cover the cat with my shirt, and let the vet out. He never said a word and just took the cat into the surgery.
Six hours later, when I picked up the cat, I took a steel cage, and didn't see hide nor hair of the vet.
But there was a free bonus gift!!!. A bottle of Clomicalm was provided free of charge, and the receptionist said, "The vet thought you might need these"
So, I took one for the drive home, and gave the cat two with his dinner!
Can't wait until next Wednesday, when I have to do the same trip again with another cat.

Living in a house with five cats and all have had to make trips to the vets at one time or another.

I have never had an experience like yours, but carry the memories of many a battle getting them in the carrier.

They seem to get smarter, and each time the carrier comes out they find the darnest places to hide. I have discovered while searching for the un-lucky one ,hide-away places I never knew existed.

We have tried everything from coaxing with food, backing them in (them devils have eyes in their back side I'm sure) and then the towel trick wrapped around.....don't work.

We always get them in, after many frustrating attempts and after their visit, the vet has no problem getting them in.... don't figure.

Remember this and you will never go wrong. Cats are our masters.

That brings back some memories.

I was adopted by a feral cat once. I mean truly feral. It deigned to let me feed it and every now'n'again - on very rare occasions - would permit a few pats without attempting to remove my hand at the wrist.

A mate dropped in shortly after it first took up residence and tried picking it up by the tail.

Ever seen anyone pick up a whipper snipper at full throttle by the wrong end? Hehehe. I seriously doubt he'll ever try that again with any cat.

I wonder what happened to that ol' moggy? One day it simply stopped leaving me presents of dead rodents on the doorstep and I never saw it again.

Ah well.

I agree with desexing felines but I woul think twice before tangling with any Felis Domesticus that had treed a Staffy!!

My wife is a Vet and i have attended call outs with her for some seriously tough felines so i know exactly how that Vet feels and i have the scars to prove it.

Better leave vet a bottle o' wine or few beers or something. Specially if you are planning more visits. Strange how cats can levitate isn't it. I liked Skews image of "grabbing whipper sniper at the wrong end".

.22 neuters the filthy things at a safe distance and is a helluva lot cheaper and easier.

Yep, the ginger cat (o'Rielly) has certainly come up in me estimations.
Funny thing though, when I paid the bill I got 10% discount , as the receptionist saw my Gold Card in my wallet. Bet the vet would hate that!
