    Default Giving The Bird

As some of you may know SWMBO broke her finger just before Easter, and last Friday she went in for surgery and they found that one bone was in six pieces. They used a plate and six 1.7mm gauge screws 6mm long to fix it. The screws were $82.50 EACH  .
Third party insurance will pay eventually but with Doctor, XRays, Specialist, Surgeon, Assistant Surgeon, Anesthetist, Hospital bed, Theatre Fees etc, I'm around $4500.00 out of pocket.
The moral of this story is, If you lose your cool and decide to give someone the "Bird" just make sure they don't reach over and break your finger. It's bloody expensive.

Sorry to hear the news brother Termite.

On the weekend a mate told me a clean joke which may be applicable to your costs.

A motorbike mechanic was working on a bike's motor. He removed the motor and dismantled it carefully. When his mate the surgeon walked into the workshop, the mechanic told the surgeon

"look at this, I am removing the heart of the bike, I am replacing some parts of it's heart, I am carefully adjusting other parts of it's heart and then I'll carefully put the bike's heart back into the bike so it will be healthy for a long time.

For all this effort I'll only be paid $350. When you operate on someone's heart you get paid thousands!!! That's hardly fair when we have effectively done the same job"

The surgeon thought for a moment and replied "If you can take the motor out, dismantle part of it, repair it, adjust it and put the motor back whilst the motor is running then you should be paid the same as me."

Here's hoping for a quick recovery of your missus.

I've got 10 screws that I paid $60 each for in my heel, plus a piece of metal that looks like a bit of meccano and probably weighs about 10 grams for which I paid $700. The screws were put in with an air screwdriver and the bit of metal was belted into shape with a hammer and a cold chisel. I remember thinking at the time that I could probably have done the job with the gear I had at home.

Cripes, it'd be cheaper to cut open her finger with your pocket knife, repair the bone with super glue and then pay for the hospital visit to fix the infection.

I know. We'll all submit jokes to cheer her up ... though with stuff that gets posted here, you might be up for repairs to her other hand after she thumps you.

    Cheers
    Richard
