Default Things to photograph in Queensland.

Thought I might popup to Queensland for a week.

What interesting things are there up there to photograph,
roughly between the Goldcoast and Ipswitch.

I have to concede that there is little of interest to detain the discerning traveller south of the Gateway Bridge. But, if you are prepared to go a few extra miles, you can marvel at the towering peaks of the Glasshouse Mountains, or watch babies being fed to crocodiles at Steve Irwin's zoo at Beerwah. Ok, they may have stopped the baby-feeding antics, but you can see a cassowary there. Keep on a few more miles, and, if you have a wide-enough angle lens, you can capture the enormous swarms of biting midges that rise from the mangrove swamps at Mountain Creek. If you continue to Maleny (Queensland's answer to Nimbin) you can watch the blood flowing from the crowd of greenies being crushed by the bulldozers clearing the site for a Woolworth's supermarket. Apart from that there is not much to be seen, apart from the Barrier Reef, until you get to Cairns

Not a lot if you take the quickest route up the motorway but if you have time to waffle around, try the Currumbin bird sanctuary at the Gold Coast end and a slight detour to Mount Tamborine for some great views. This real estate site has photos and local info. http://www.lanerealty.com.au/

There's not much at the Ipswich end unless you go past it. Bear in mind that Ipswich was originally a railway maintenance town and mining area so its fairly industrial.
This is a fairly upbeat assessment of it: http://www.ipswich-city.com/about/

    Bob,

While I can but echo Rocker's sentiments, I can also point you to a million spots in the Gold Coast Hinterland, on the Coast or even in Ipswich, which is pretty much filled with colonial era housing in the Queensland style. (and what STYLE it is!), Surfers Paradise itself is a monster photo opportunity if the built environment and oddly dressed people are your thing!

When you say interesting things did you mean photographically interesting?

There's tons of nature stuff, in the hinterland, views from the mountain tops, I'd drive from the coast via Beaudesert to Ipswich, it'll take another half hour, but you are heading through rolling Beef country, rain forests and all sorts of other stuff.

Of course there's the Qld Railway museum and ......crikey, why don't you just move to the Sunshine Coast and visit this stuff on weekends...you'll need the rest of your life to photograph the good bits!

Then there are things like the former Power's Brewery at Yatala, the Beenleigh Rum Distillery, the Ettamogah Pub (Ettamogah is also in Queensland, but a bit north of Ipswich).

Are you going to be on the Gold Coast by next weekend? I'll guarantee an interesting photo or two at Gary Pyes!

    Cheers,

P (but the Sunshine Coast is nicer!)

I came to Queensland last Sunday. It was only going to be a brief visit and back home on Thursday. I had to have a test after a little turn a fortnight ago. They gave me the test and decided I needed to have an angiogram on Friday. The result was that I will have a three week holiday at the courtesy of my health fund and give me a quadruple heart bypass next Friday.

It is amazing how your life can change so quickly.

So on that note I decided to post a couple of pics of my $500.00 a day of and from my resort style room at the Ramsay Group Greenslopes Resort.

Living in the lap of luxury hey.

Away from the noisy tourist crowds.

Love yer height adjustable bed. Would make a great workbench.

Look after yourself, its a common procedure these days and it shouldn't greatly alter your future woody lifestyle.

    Best wishes

    Bazz!

Great to see you are holidaying in Qld! I guess if they are doing a quadrupal bypass on Friday, you'll come down the Tugun bypass on Saturday to catch us at Pyes eh??

Hope all goes well.. I'll have a snag for you.

    Take care!

    Echidna,

Of course there's a fantastic collection of "Bigs" for you to see as well:

    Pineapple,
    Mower,
    Shell,
    Bottle,
    Cow,
    Avocado
and probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head.

    Cehers,

    P

    Question New Plumbing

Barry, our thoughts are with you and wish you a speedy recovery. Life has a way of changing just when everything seems to be going great and I speak from experience dumped on me twenty four years ago.

    Regards Mike
