    Default Indonesian Maids

Did anyone see the story on foreign correspondent last night about the abuse being faced by Indonesian maids in Malaysia? It was pretty sad, one maid had been ironed on her chest and back by her "Chinese" boss, who was a woman!!

There are over 200,000 Indonesian maids in Malaysia and they do not have to be given a day off, receive less than the minimum wage, some arfe paid nothing and held against there will and many are beaten, there are around 200 hundred housed at the Indonesian embassy at any one time, seeking shelter having been rescued from there employers.

Meanwhile the maids from the Phillipines are protected by an agreement between the Phillipines and Malaysia for them to receive a day off and minimum wage.

The interior minister in Malaysia said they couldn't agree to the same for the Indonesians as there would be too many of them on the street when they have a day off?

It would seem that the native malays get the best deal, then the ethnic indians and then the ethnic chinese and imported workers particularly from Indonesia can be treated as slaves.

BTW the silly trekkie story also on FC last night was an example of what happens in suburbia when you have no life.

Even sadder, the conditions will not stop the amount of Indonesians applying for the jobs as they will be earning more than they could back home... and supplying their families with a much better life.

Same thing happens with the sex slave industry? in Europe. They escape only to go back as they need the money.

Saw it on Foxtel, so no involvement on my behalf.............

Pretty much. But each subsection of the population has their own pecking order.

If you hit a Malay with your car and a Chinese cop showed up he would just let you go, but if it was a Malya cop off to the police station. Vice versa as well.

Elections are interesting. More race elections, we used to set up a home guard during them. I was a warden and if anyone wanted to leave there house or get help they were to put a sheet outside. Well that was the instuctions given, never got like that. Apparently only on Raafie was hurt during the electron riots and he drove down there to watch?

Only two places I've been that I've been subjected to racist actions were in Kuala Lumpur and Auckland.

There is a small group of Aucklanders that have a real chip on their shoulders and are down right rude when they discover you're an Australian. Didn't happen anywhere else in NZ.

I've spent a couple of weeks in KL over the years and generally found the place unwelcoming.

I saw the program. It was another example of ignorant racists justifying their actions in any way they can. The excuses and comments from Malays interviewed in the program seemed shocking to us, but that is what they are conditioned to beleive as correct behaviour. Just like we are being conditioned in Australia to beleive that families running from oppression or death etc, for themselves and family, are potential TerryRests.

Part of my work invloves assisting such families in dire need. I have seen too many times, the damage that this present Federal Government perpertrates on people in our name. It was shocking to see what people suffer in other countries, however we are not in a position to do much about it. We are in a position to make comments that can positively impact on the wrongs that "WE" do as Australians.

Fossils first political comment on this board.

In the Solomon Islands the worst racists I saw were the Chinese and the Arstralian tourists, they were so embarassing we used to say we were bloody Yanks when a cruise ship came in!
