    Default Kids jobs

My two older kids have jobs to do when they get home from school and before 6pm. When we remind them to do there jobs, they get narky. So the last three days we didn't remind them, so come 6pm I call them together.
Day 1 both kids didn't do all there jobs, so bed at 7pm.
Day 2 again both kids didn't do there jobs, so bed at 7pm
Day 3 the older child didn't do her jobs so bed at 7pm and on a Friday night haha but my boy can stay up.
I will see how the week end works out.
How else do you get your kids to do there jobs.

Do the same as in "the real world" and dock their pocket money pro rata.

Welcome to my world. Getting my teenage daughters to any chores whatsoever is like pulling teeth.

    Very very annoying.

I like DJ's idea much more, best not link chores to money, chores are what you do as part of the household/community and you don't get paid for them. Paying kids for chores will bite you in the a$$ eventually.

DJ's idea makes sense, time for time, you take my time (by making me have to do extra because you are not pulling your weight) I will take yours.

There was thread on pocket money and chores before that I had a good rant on, let me find it. Here it is.

The appropriate course of action here is

    disobedience - discipline - learning

The last one mightn't come the first time, nor the second or third time. But they'll get the message eventually.

How old are your kids DJ? I'm a firm believer in a bit of spanky for younger kids (under 10 maybe). But after that it's a bit trickier. If you've raised your kids to be little angels then a firm word should do the trick, otherwise you'll need to be a bit more persuasive. I think your method is pretty good

I have a similar strategy, except mine involves electronic entertainment, no chores, no XBax, PC, TV whatever, works for my two,

Funky Chicken my girl is to young for you she is only 14 the mid one (boy) is 9 and the young one (boy) is 3.
I said to number 1 that I shoud take her phone but all she said that's ok I am out of credit any way.
I have done the TV and games thing with no luck, I think the 7pm bed time might be the go. Now if only the dog would stop digging holes.

    Hey David,

I reckon that you should tie the kid that doesn't do the chores to the four legged kid (dog) and take him round the backyard 25 times, the kids will either tuffen up or 'Finley the dog' will be too tired to dig holes.

with my daughter - 12 going on 21, jobs are set out on a board for each day with the valve amount ie credit - not cash.

    bedroom - make bed - 15 credits
No towel or clothes on floor of bathroom - 12 credits
school work completed and checked - 20 credits
there are more than i want to list. here is the kicker every thing not done its double the credits off. maygen and i sat down and worked out the credit system i found it had to be a two way street. if i dont do something that she has asked for she gets credits. when the month is done the total of the credits are added up and maygen can pick what she wants to do. things like

    movies - 50 credits
    thursday night shopping - 20
her mother doesnt like the credit system. but i think it is teaching her the value of money and time and it works for us and we dont have any fights. buy the way i only get my girl on weekends and holidays

Was she less grumpy cos she actually had enough sleep? I got my Small Boy to bed an hour earlier once and he slept better and was happier the next day.

The jobs? Mine is only 7 (nearly) I usually ask him to help me do something rather than do something all by himself. (although he does clean his room up when we are all doing a house attach on Sunday. But he's not the only one doin git then either. ) If he doesn't want to do it cos he wants to play I tell him I'm gonna be grumpy if I have to do it all and he gets to play. He does that classic "Oooooooh! MuuuuuuuuUUUUuuuuuummm!" Then comes and helps, and I think quite enjoys it really. We did pocket money for a while, but after a while he said :"but there is nothing I want to buy" and so stopped doing stuff. So I though that could wait till there WAS something he wanted to buy.

Hey don't go assuming things about me, I'm waiting a few more years before I get tangled up in that mess

You could've waited until she had credit then taken the phone
