Not a Kogan user but have two phones on ALDImobile. ALDI was connecting to Telstra via the same intermediary as Kogan, but managed to stitch up a deal direct with Telstra to enable them to maintain the service.

Basic points $5 SIM with $5 credit attached, you can have a new number in 3 minutes or port your existing number in a few hours when activating the SIM.

Pay as you Go for light users
No flagfall, $0.12 per minute mobile or landline in OZ except Premium service numbers, billed in 1 min blocks
    $0.12 text messages in OZ
5c/MB data usage billed in 1MB blocks
$15 or $30 recharges via store voucher or online, both 365 days expiry.
$15 30 day 2GB data add on for Pay as you Go if you need regular data instead of very occasional data at the 5c/MB rate.

OR $35 per month prepaid plain for unlimited calls landline and mobile in OZ and 5GB data if you use a lot of calls and data.

    Hope this helps.

Same coverage and speeds etc as provided by the Telstra 3G network, which I assume Kogan was with the same intermediate wholesaler.
I used to be an engineer, I'm not an engineer any more, but on the really good days I can remember when I was.

Have just returned from a 7 week road trip using a smart phone on Telstra Pre-Paid and an Android Tablet on Aldi 2Gb data for $15.

Reception on both the Telstra phone and the Aldi tablet were mostly identical, but internet usage using the tablet was far superior to using the phone as a hotspot.

I reckon the Aldi $35/month with basically unlimited calls an 5Gb data would have to be the best deal around.

Just going through the process to port from Kogan to Aldi (so I can keep the same number) - there are so many people trying to do this in a hurry right now, I doubt you'll get through to Aldi Mobile by phone, but the process can be done through their webpage.

Word of advice to anyone doing this; in the early part of the process it asks if your current service is "Prepaid". Although you might think your Kogan service was prepaid (i.e. 1, 3 or 12 months up front) that isn't what the Aldi page wants to hear. I tried this and application was rejected. Instead de-select "Prepaid" and it asks for an account number - that's where you put your old Kogan account number.

Hopefully that will keep Aldi happy (along with all the proof of identity I have had to provide) and my port will proceed with no further problems.

I'll be going "pay as you go" with Aldi for the first month or so, just in case they go belly up too. The agreement between Aldi (Medion) and Telstra is "interim" - which means things may yet change.

It seems to be the "unlimited" plans that are causing the problem as far as Telstra is concerned, so it'll be interesting to see if Aldi are able to retain this. Some other resellers on other networks have also been forced to remove their "unlimited" plans recently too.

Telstra is the only network that has any coverage in my area, so if Aldi doesn't work out the only other cheap(ish) option is Boost. I think they are $40/month for unlimited with 3Gb data.

I have just switched to Aldi prepaid after being told that Three was closing down at the end of the month and I would loose my number.

As we don't have Aldi here I ordered the $5 sim starter pack online. Before they would send it out they wanted me to scan my ID and send it through (far enough) and they would send an email with instructions. The email didn't come so I called. After trying to work out which option I needed I finally selected the call back feature ..... 3 hours later they called back and I wasn't home!

Eventually I got the starter pack only to find I needed to provide further ID. Luckily the port of the number was quicker than the time they quoted and I am up and running.

So far coverage has been good and the rates are much better than the larger companies. I should have switched from Three months ago.

Have been using Kogan for data only in a wireless dongle sold by Telstra.

My son is the tech guru in the family and has suggested Amaysim for this purpose. They buy capacity from Optus and there's coverage where I am for the next few months.

Both were/are way cheaper than the big T.

For the best mobile phone coverage T. has been the only reliable choice but I note that Optus have been putting in lots of towers in rural/remote areas so I may get an Amaysim SIM to switch in and out as needed.

    Default Aldimobile.

    Hi All,
Yes, I'm also on A/M, & could not be happier, & @ 12c a minute, + 365 Days to use it, just suits me down to the ground. It is quite a change from Telstra's 89c per min. & 30 Days
Haven't thought about Internet yet, but I don't think I will be needing it.
    Regards,
    issatree.
