    LED lights
    - normally have a transparent plastic (polycarbonate) outer shell. Tapping them with a metal key will make a "chack" rather than a "chink" sound.
    - will come on instantaneously
    - are usually lighter than the glass tubes - not by much so you can't really tell without using a weight balance.

Have a look at any writing on the tube. Should tell you if it is LED or not.

Mine have a "This side up" marking, as there's an LED strip which needs to shine down.
