I would call it an outright windfall - you have the car covered and will still have cash-in-hand!

I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

I finished the job for my friend and collected a tidy $2337.50 for 93.5 hrs work and picked the car up on Friday after 3 weeks at the mechanics. The bill came to $2334.75, and apparently I need 2 new tyres as well .

I know that the extra money gave me a chance to pay for the work done to the car, but at the time I was offered the work I had no idea that the car was "sick" and I was hoping to give the family a nice Christmas.

You might be able to get some super glue from a $2 shop with that. Coffee cost more than that these days, unless you go to Maccers. You'll just have to take everyone for a nice drive for xmas.
