Thanks for that, interesting reading, more money wasted by Governments in the past.

In the early 80's I worked for a company that specialised in trans portable buildings, schools, construction site accommodation, etc.
One particular job was for the railway police at Redfern station, it was a field office for them and it was canter levered from the street level out over the lines, very challenging job, anyway,at the very lowest level was a line that never had passenger trains on it but it disappeared into a tunnel heading south, lots of weeds and rubbish between the rails and sleepers but the rails were shiny with constant use. I asked one of the railway detectives where it went and the answer and I quote "What rail line, its your imagination, the 3 wise monkeys led a peaceful life, so should you, bye!"The person who never made a mistake never made anything
Cheers

i wonder whether he was having you on ... it sounds like the line that used to run under the express lines across to the the loco yards at eveleigh ... very innocuous ... i can't remember when they stopped being used ... i used to go to macdonaldtown a lot in the late fifties and early sixties ... you could look across to the yards then
regards david
edit to add:
PS even in those days very few trains stopped at macdonaldtown

Quite possible, still makes for an interesting antidote though
