    longish story so I thought I'd post it there but was just wondering if anyone has missed a plane whilst in the airport?

    Not being able to hear the announcements is just ridiculous. Makes you wonder doesn't it.

    Anyway, I've never missed one whilst at the airport but on a recent holiday to Tasmania, we arrived at the airport for our trip home, present at the check in counter, to which the woman states...."um, your tickets were for 6am, not 6pm, you're about 12 hours late"

    Well, I was already stressed since I'm petrified of flying. Not much we could do but buy more tickets, at full price (our holiday was on those Virgin bargain deal flights they have now and again that you spend 3 hours online trying to get the $5 tickets).

    Could have been worse, they could have been $900 full price tickets

    Yes, a couple times IIRC. Once, a "helpful" airline assistant sent me to the wrong gate in Atlanta, and by the time I got to the correct gate, I had to wait for the next flight. On another occasion, a flight from Miami to Tallahassee was delayed for a variety of reasons (none quite true it seemed). The airline offered to place passengers in a hotel overnight, with passage on the first flight the next day. I'd had a similar adventure in San Francisco many years ago, and didn't wish to repeat it. I was first in line at a car rental desk, and drove about 8 hours myself. Timewise, it worked out about the same, but my satisfaction was superior.

    The wife and I took a group of school kids, on the change over at LA heading to San Fransisco one kid left her passport behind as we cleared security. Just made the flight, but couldn't board, so waved goodbye to the wife and 14 kids while we retraced our steps. At least we got lucky, retrieved the passport and boarded a later flight, we actually walked into the hotel as the rest were heading off to tea so it all worked out. We ended up as a group of six adults and 42 children, every flight had a story but nothing major. Lost baggage, sick kids, missing boarding passes, yet everythings fixable in the end.

    It was the second flight I have missed in my life. The first being the result of some lunatic who had climbed onto the story bridge in Brisbane and was pouring acid onto the traffic. or something like that. I think I paid the difference in fares on that occasion.

    Missed a flight back in 1985. I booked a taxi at a time that would get me to Mascot terminal for a casual book-in. When it hadn't arrived a phoned again and was told it was a couple of minutes away. Finally 20 minutes after the follow-up call the cab turns up. Delivered me to the airport in time to see the plane taxiing to the runway. As I was booked business class the airline (Ansett...remember them) organised to get me on the TAA flight (what you haven't heard of them?) which was leaving 10 minutes later. Planes arrived at similar times in Bundaberg, but it still caused me some embarrassment with the company.

    I fired off a complaint yesterday, which I should really have copied and sent as a letter as well, as it was very well worded and most unlike my usual nonsense. Fancy telling Swmbo that I would hear the announcement everywhere when that wasn't true;
    I would postulate that then, upon learning that in particular area, which was the last place she saw me, there weren't audible announcements, she would have come and found me.

    Have made that comment too, but you don't tell women what to do. That is an extreme sport that I, for one, do not wish to participate in
