What brand, gauge outline etc do you have? I presume it is electric for that era.
If it is clockwork it is now quite valuable particularly if you have the original boxes.

I have the train set my son had when he was small (in the 70's) normal Tri- Ang but boy have they come a long way since then.

I friend who was terminally ill with cancer decided that in his final months a train set would be something he could do so he asked myself and another friend if would we make him a board so when he was well enough to leave hospital he would be able to buy the gear and get into it. Being such a fighter he was determined to keep busy right up till the end.

The new trains ( top end I would think) have sound, working lights whistles, and all sorts of other features, you can run more than one train on the one line at once, and from the control ( its like a remote) turn on the light govern the speed you name it, each train has its own code.

It was amazing to see this train sitting on the track and hear the perfect sound coming out of it as is hissed and puffed and then cranked up and chugged around the track. You could blow the whistle turn on the lights from the one small control in you hand no transformer and control lever just a set of buttons a led readout screen and a thumb wheel to work the throttle. The train wasn't even painted as new it was painted as if it had been in service with coal dust and muck all over it and everything exactly right till the last detail.

For the book a Garrett cost $1000.

I only received them the other day and I am moving from Cairns to Brissy in a couple of weeks so I repacked them today. There is quite a few Hornby trains and I think some Beatties trains. The stuff has been in storage for 17 years so it will be great to get them all going again.

There are level crossings, street lights, guard lights you name it. All of it is getting on, but hopefully serviceable. They are guage 00.

Ive been looking around for ideas of boards to make. I think in the short term I need to just get everything working, but it would be good to at least start on a board, that way I am not setting the track up just to test.

Type "Hornby 00" into Google, settle yourself in and be prepared for information overload.

Memories, when I was a kid I had the Hornby Dublo (OO) three rail set up which was sent to train heaven in 1966 when we came to Aus.
In the mid 80's I bough a 'N' gauge outfit which I set up in a downstairs room, it was about 15' by 10', for N gauge that was massive, I just delighted in making all the electronic switch gear and controllers.
Unfortunately I was sent back to Melbourne and I didn't have the room to set it up again so it was a reluctant sale, thanks for the post and the memories.

Whilst googling today I came across this fantastic website. I dont know where I am going to find the time though

Hopefully when I start setting up I will post some photos, but I cant see this happening in the next year or two. I need to build under my house to create a space to work in
