    Throughtout our lives we come across some famous people, not through being invited to meet them or backstage passes etc, just in situations right place right time sort of thing.

    My first famous person walking to shops in Hurstville one quiet sunday morning Jack Brabahm and his sons early 62-63 he had his car out cleaning it yep race one stayed and talked for a while must have looked odd 7yr old with mouth wide open and eyes bullging in awe.

    Opened car door for GG back in the 60's when in Boy's Brigade major thing at Sydney Show Ground.

    LBJ & wife American stand in president on tour to Sydney was in cavalcade behind his wife wanted photo's of mymate and the rest of us dressed in USA Uncle Sam globber.

    Handed silver shovel to poitician (don't recall who may have been Gough) who planted tree at primary school (should have swung it at his head)

    Swedish Prince Gustaff when he came into kitchen to meet kitchen staff.

    Mr Maroney Police commissioner when I almost run over his footwith wheelchair he wasn't watching where he was walking at Hawksbury Show 2005

    Peter Paul & Mary mates place.

    1960's Johnny Farnham he was performing at Roselands Raindrop Fountain and need to water the horse I had just been (must have had that look of relief on my face) he held up his show for 15 minutes.

    Olivier Newton John in studio prior Grease

    John farnham yes again same studio he was working his way into replace Glen Shorrok (spelling???)

    Mark Latham 1st time he was 9 yrs old little shyte then picked fight at local pool he got turfed out, 2nd time he got caught doing something he shouldn't 11 yrs he got banned for life from same pool unfortunatley i was witness and woman pointed me out, 3rd time caught up in fight in streeet with some of his high school mates.

    Colin Bond & Peter Brock before they were sponsored by Holden it was on the plate Peter was with his then wife the weather girl. They were driving past a mate and I who were walking to Oran Park they stopped and offered us a lift opened the doors of the race cars on the trailers, both wives went nuts cops everywhere needless to say didn't get in. (ps mate had broken leg and crutches at the time), years later at Agquip Colin again.

    None of these were planned all spontanious.

    Well, I don't want to brag, but I have shared the stage with Frankie J Holden (not his real name) and he has been to my house!!

    (Should I admit that?) (Especially since I bag him as often as I can).

    I've also met Noni Hazlehurst! Hmm, not getting better is it?

    I've had beers (I think they were beers) with Kevin Borich after a gig. More credibility there. Also met various muso types back stage when I used to play a lot of supports - Mondo Rock, Eurogliders, Phil Manning & Matt Taylor, Party Girls!

    I met Ben Elton and the three guys from The Doug Anthony All Stars.

    I went to school with Warren Brown (cartoonist) before he became famous. Does that count?

    George Gregan has served me coffee (Clutching at straws now)...

    I've been in the lift with Peter Costello, and that National Party bloke who always wore a hat (mental blank).

    I've spoken to Gai Waterhouse on the phone!

    Oh, oh, and I went to the Ella brother's Mum's house at La Perouse when we gave her brother a ride to Sydney from Narooma (g'day Bruce, if you're reading)!!

    not that I am proud of this one but new the coach captain who used to do the Copper kettle Coffee add he'd have 15 cup of it by lunch time if you listened to it.

    Silent C you mean Tim Fisher in the hat.??

    Nothing wrong with FJHolden good car his ears always made me think of one with the doors open

    He doesn't drive an FJ though, he drives an EH station wagon.

    Yes, Tim Fisher and there was another pollie with him, they were both in the news at the time. Used to work in the same building where little Johnny has his Sydney office. I walked out of the lift one morning to get my coffee and all these lights and cameras were pointing straight at me. Very unnerving and a bit deflating when they all look so disappointed. Johnny always came and went by the private lift to the carpark underneath.

    • I was on Agro's Cartoon Connection:

    • A year later at my Primary School, Berrinbah East Primary School, I again met Agro and Jamie Dunn;

    • I played in an orchestra for the Queen at the opening of Expo 88;

    • Met Alan Border and Alfie Langer on separate TVCs I was art directing;

    • had Moon Face do an ad campaign for a real estate development up near Mooloolaba;

    • saw Geoffery Rush in Chapel Street;



    But who gives a rats about the Queen, not me

    Years ago mate whom I met many of the above artists through was in the UK doing some work at Abbey Rd studios...first time there he being big Beatles fan was hopefull they would stroll in..... nah not a chance anyway on his way back to motel he bought new George Harrison album at the time back on tube sitting right across was yep George he could even ask he couldn't move. to get autograph

    Had half an hour of Paul Keeting's time back when he was still measuring up Hawke for a dagger. Shared a delightful hour seated next to Alexander Downer once

    Exchanged pleasantries with General Cosgrove, flirted with Felicity Kennet before I knew who she was (1991?). Got in a pissing contest with Jeff moments later. Didn't know who he was at the time either.

    Met the deputy premier of the USSR back in '85, had a fun night with the Stasi in East Berlin in late '89 (but I can assure you that their hearts weren't in it by then-I just got deported, unbruised)

    I have met HRH on three occasions. I don't think she remembers. Once gave Princess Dianna a smarmy wink while in Ottawa. She seemed unmoved.

    Had a boozy afternoon once in Dublin with a co-worker. His kid and some of his friends joined us. My co-worker was named Clayton, and his kid was Adam, the mate was Bono somebody or other. There was at some point a ferocious headbutt launched in someone's direction, and much merriment. Did I mention the booze?

    There are a few more local celebrities, too close to home to comment

    When I first saw this thread I thought "I haven't come across anyone famous". But when I thought about it ....

    I've been in a meeting with Barry Jones (it was at Uni and I was the postgrad rep)

    Had a yarn with Slim Dusty at a rodeo in Mt Isa

    Had a yarn with Dawn Fraser at the North Queensland games

    Occasionally said hello to Rob Hulls as he jogged past my house

    Talked with Peter Carey while he signed a book (doesn't count I suppose)

    I'm sure there's more, but oddly enough, it doesn't really mean anything to me. The only person I'd really like to meet is Leonardo da Vinci, and he's long gone.
