    Default Obesity epidemic.

Now that ex PM Tony Abbott has gone from politics I'd like to raise a point regarding the journalistic rabble. They tell us that Australia is in the grip of an obesity epidemic with our young people glued to their screens etc, and we need to get more exercise. Abbott set a good example in this regard, swimming, cycling, running but the journalists were relentless in their ridiculing him in his Lycra or "budgie smugglers". How much more effective could these parasites have been had they promoted him as setting a good example to we lard-arsed Aussies.
This is not intended to open a conversation about Abbotts political side of life.
    Cheers,
    Geoff.

Socieoeconomic stress -> physiological stress + at least adequate food supply -> obesity
Innovations are those useful things that, by dint of chance, manage to survive the stupidity and destructive tendencies inherent in human nature.

Don't get me started on the media. Once upon a time you had maybe a 50/50 chance of some truth on the news. Now it's 100% certain everything they say is a lie.

Being in the same age group I've heard a number of ladies utter favourable comments on Mr Abbot's physique. I wish I was half that fit...

I see 3-4 specialists and each have told me at 5’11” and 99kg, that I’m obese.
I do two lots of 1 hour hydrotheapy weekly, have reduced my food intake but still can’t please the doctors.

Fit Liberals - Tony Abbot as mentioned above. John Howard on his daily walks.
Unfit pollies or want to be's - Clive Palmer. (If successful he may require more than one seat.)

I work in a medical facility, and unfortunately, more of our patients are getting bigger and heavier requiring more specialized equipment to move them. Some of the staff who transport the patients (who might be under weight) are suffering injuries moving them.

Crowie, You're not obese, just short for your weight, just like me

Aus politics: Do sporty things and get a pass for endorsing paedophiles

I'd rather have a healthy mind and unfit body than round the other way

When I retired 13 years ago I was 103kg (years of sitting in a truck) within months I'd got that down to 89kg and my doctor still reckoned at 5'11" I was obese. Since then I hover between 89 - 92kg.
My point though, as Damian picked up on, is the inability of the newshounds to think independently and try to do their job in a professional manner. Every other employer would expect their employee to do his/her job to the best of their ability. Being a reporter is probably more complex than a lot of jobs, if you're working for a left or right leaning organisation then an article that doesn't meet the editors point of view would probably be rejected or reworked regardless of how professionally it was written.
What I'm trying to say is Abbott set a good example to the nation in regard to his physical fitness but the media overlooked this in their constant quest to score points against his political career.

    Geoff.

Taking the /mickey is an Australian tradition. You're making it out into something that it wasn't.

Want to talk about role models, how about you pay your way if you're wealthy instead of scamming a scholarship for your daughter through your political connections?

I'm laughing, just like I do every time a doctor tries to get me to care about my "obesity", diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol...

You should see the looks on their faces when I start listing my 4 different types of cancer, the perforated bowel that nearly killed me in 2013 and the flipping SERIOUS stuff! Funny!

I had one bloke lecturing me on sun exposure the other week!

Has anyone else got shorter as they got older ? I seem to have lost an inch...

My doctor regularly is in to me about my wait and have to resist saying to her go and look in the mirror. She gave me the lecture while drinking a cup of coffee and eating two sweet biscuits which I had a quite smile about.
