Yeah we all know about panic buying of toilet paper and bottled water. Then came pasta. I guess you have to do something with all the water that you bought.

But now there is a new panic buying frenzy. You won't believe this but people here in the US are buying and hoarding fresh milk. After a couple of weeks, fresh milk will sour regardless of refrigeration.

Parmalat might be a substitute and understandable but the taste is no where as good as fresh stuff.

Seriously, I'm not making this up.

I have a couple of weirdos at home that can't drink the awesomeness of moo juice and have to consume cardboardy flavoured rice milk or the incredibly intensive milking almond milk, now we haven't got into the whole panic buying thing so off we went to the supermarket on Sunday, as per normal, and there was nothing; none of the boys Long Life Rice milk or Almond milk for the lovely wife in the long life section but we did manage to locate some in the fridge section so my wife was very proud of herself as she did a bit of panic buying and took the whole 4 bottles of rice milk that were there (which will last 2 x seven year old boys and 1 x 18 year old about 3 days) so what happens when we go back who knows but I did tell them to save up the cardboard from the weet-bix box and we'll mix it with some water for cardboard milk.

2 things that really annoy me.
1 When people buy more than they need. For example yesterday I saw a young lady holding 7-8 packs of nuts.
2 When people cough and sneeze openly in public. An old man did that on the train yesterday and a couple of people moved after a little while. Don't people know now is the time to practise good personal hygiene?

I went to the grocery yesterday morning to pick up a few things. One of them was bananas. They were all gone. At the cash register I was told there had been a run on them the night before. I just can't understand how anyone could expect to hoard bananas.

We have successfully frozen milk for up to 3 months. It's not quite the same, but its good enough for cooking or powdered coffee.

Was at our usual supermarket yesterday and apart from what has already been discussed, noticed large gaps in or completely empty shelves for the following
Eggs, basic cheeses, cheap bread produce, long life milk, canned vegetables, cooking oil, all dried goods, bottled cooking sauces, clothing detergent!, any paper product (wipes/tissues/paper towels), cleaning products like bleach, pet food, breakfast foods, fish/meat (especially chicken, that was all gone) no sausages.

Because of dietary requirements I make my own Ca free Yoghurt using coconut milk and that was all gone.
Plenty of milk, fruit and vegetables and bottled water - in fact the space normally occupied with toilet paper was stocked with full shelves of bottled water.

The manager who I know said that over the past weekend they had sold approx 3x more than what they sold the weekend before last Xmas and they don't have the staff to restock shelves. This surprised me as there are there are very large uni student accomodation blocks within walking distance. They must have too much money?

It will be my last visit to a supermarket for a few months as I'm going into self isolation. We will continue on-line (also groceries) shopping and for emergencies I will be driving SWMBO to a store and staying in the car. SWMBO is much better than I am at sanitary control so I've been told I'm no longer doing any shopping.

Interestingly, when I picked up a couple of items yesterday, I noticed that in the biscuit aisle the TimTam section was almost empty.

I like them but was not buying them - just happened to pass that section.

Was in the shops early today,
To be honest if felt very surreal and weird,actually very depressing.
I was buying some orange juice, but noticed people just looking for anything to try.

But interestingly still lots of tinned fish products, which is weird because they keep for ever and I would happily have a tin of sardines then go hungry.

Interestingly Italians call toilet paper "carta igenica" which means "hygienic paper"

I always thought toilet or dunny paper was a silly name because the primary purpose for it not to wipe the toilet.
