    Default wanting redundant PC/dig.camera.

Janet & I are coming back again to Oz in September (24th) for 6 months and staying at Garvoc, Victoria.

This weekend in the UK we had another terrorist threat which involved the banning of all carry on luggage re flying out of the UK.

This meant that we have lost between us 14kgs. of carry on luggage which would have been taken up with such items as laptop/ digital camera and battery plus chargers.

If anyone has redundant items above we can use for the above period it would be helpful because main luggage allowance is needed for our extended stay.

We are hopeful here in the UK that some carry on luggage restrictions may be lifted but above items in this day and age will always be suspect.

Please pm me if any help available or suggestions.

Hardly Normal are selling 'NEW' laptops for under $900, not the greatest unit in the world but probably OK for your short term need.
I think they boasted 40gb HD 254RAM XP Home etc etc, no burner though.

Wouldn't you be able to check the equivalent weight of your hand luggage?

The overall weight of the plane wouldn't increase ..... but they may not have excess room under.

Thats where I forsee the future problem, 400 passengers wanting that 7kgs each makes a total of 2800kgs extra hold luggage.
I did ring the airline 14 days ago because I was bringing a fishing rod and excess baggage is $65 per kg. add that both directions and things start to get expensive.

Since requesting help on the first thread I can only say again that within minutes a notebook and then a dig.camera was generously offered.

I'm flying to New Zealand on Aug 24th and Air New Zealand has reduced their baggage allowance from 64kg to 46kg. That is enough of a problem but losing the 7kg of cabin baggage makes it really tough, especially as I'm taking a bassinet and 4 jewelry boxes that I have made for my kids and my Mother. I hope I can still fit into my son's clothes when I get there cause it doesn't look as though I'll be taking too many with me.

Luckily the cabin baggage restrictions have been relaxed slightly today and by Sept 24 they may be back to normal, whatever normal is.

Those terrorists have sure screwed the world up for everyone.

    The British airport saga,

The news leaking after last weeks fiasco is that 10,000 passengers have their luggage scattered all over the world, and remember no carry on luggage, keys, PC's, cameras, personal carry on possessions all tied into their baggage.
Baggage handlers have the ability to get hold of keys knowing holiday makers are absent from their homes.

A neighbour also returning from a holiday in Spain waited 6 hours to claim their luggage after landing.

Some relaxations have started re carry on.

    .
if you have a fishing rod and other items you want to take with you, you could send it via DHL or a simular freight forwarder and you will get it at a far cheaper rate than $65 a kg. You could send it before you leave and when you arrive at your destination go to who you sent it through, a lot of them are within the airport precinct and it will be there ready for you to pick it up
