About 6 fatalaties/10000 population over the last 10 years compared to about 25/10000 in the 60's and 70's. There are other factors as well including RBT but all have reduced the death toll.

This sort of feel good stuff has been around for years and like everything that survives has an element of truth. However, we are the survivors, a lot weren't.
Kids were killed in the traffic selling newspapers to car travellers. The orphanages weren't just there to give the religious orders something to do. The homes for the deaf and blind were mainly there because of disease caused disability. A walk round any graveyard will demonstrate what we conveniently forget.
