    Default Royal Brisbane Hospital

Anyone been there recently, just wondering what it's like for parking.
I know it won't be cheap but I can't walk far so public transport is out.
    Cheers

Parking is right beside the entrance, but I have no idea how full it gets.
Hope this helps a wee bit.

    Hi Paul,

I regularly have to visit Royal Brisbane Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital, usually monthly, so I'm fairly familiar with the parking (or more sometimes the lack of it) at RHB. As a previous post said, the carpark at Royal Brisbane Hospital is relatively close to the Hospital's main front door; but unless you can get someone to drop you at that front door and let them park the car for you, you might find it a bit of a long walk from some areas of the carpark, as the carpark is fairly big - and parking costs at RBH will have a big impact on your wallet.

There are at least six entrances to RBH that seem to be commonly used, and there are probably quite a few more entrances that I don't know about, as the RBH complex is spread over a wide area. My recommendation is to ring the department that you will be visiting and ask them which entrance will provide you with the least walking distance. Then get someone to drop you at that entrance. There is a Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer Service that provide a guide service to visitors arriving at the main front door, and these volunteers sometimes have spare people available to pop you in a wheel chair and push you where you have to go. Unfortunately, they can often be run off their feet, and as a result you may not be able to get a wheel chair push when you need it. Better to find the closest entrance, and walk from there if you're able to, as you might miss your appointment if you're waiting in a queue for a wheelchair guide service..

If you can't get someone to drop you off and pick you up, the next cheapest option that I've done myself, is to drive to one of the back streets close to RBH where there is free on-street parking, and then call a taxi to pick you up and take you the short distance to the hospital. Getting back to your car is a simple phone call and taxi ride when you're finished your appointment. When I last did that in April this year, I parked on the upper end of Garrick Terrace. The free on-street parking gets pretty crowded by midday, so you might have to park in one of teh side streets, or a bit further away if your appointment is not early morning. The cab fare was about $12 each way, so in total about the same as it would cost you for a few hours parking at RBH.

    Hope that helps.
