I was talking to the missus about that last night. Here we are about to head into what's probably going to be a shocker of a bush fire season and we're sending millions of dollars overseas. I'm not saying we shouldn't be doing it, I reckon we have to help out, it's just bad timing and I hope people in Australia don't miss out on assistance because of it.

Maybe they should hold a SA against the rest of Australia one dayer.

    ptc,

I am trying to be rude but please don’t try to compare “unfortunate people” there and “unfortunate people” here.

Believe me our bush fire victims deserve help and will get plenty.

    Cheers

How true, you can't compare suffering with suffering and rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. All are in need of help.

However, what worries me is that because of our generosity other local and much deserving causes will miss out on help because we have given so much while the rest of the world keep their hands firmly anchored in their deep pockets.

Also the accountability of the voluntary aid agencies, and in particular their overheads running at 10 % or seventeen million of what is donated, needs to be closely questioned.

I don't know of any business that can run on less than 10% overheads, but I want one!!

What annoyed me with the tsunami was the oil rich Islamic countries offered less than a days oil earnings to help their own but the 'despised christian countries' are in there helping without being asked for it.
    anyway
As to our fires in Eyre Pen my friends and family members there are ok but the loss of life is 9 at the moment with still 12 or so unaccounted for The appeals have started and we will endure I know we will. The Adelaide fire was arson started ...those mongrels should be burned at the stake slowly.
Not a good start to 2005 all round actually and the fire season is just starting

What about struggle to find clean water, shelters, electricity, food, basic medical facilities, etc…?

Do you think our Aussie brothers and sisters are facing such hardship at the moment? We are living in such a rich country; there is no doubt our government will help them to get through this. To say “We gave so much to other people but what about us?” is a bit unkind (to the Tsunami victims) in the current situation.

IT certainly was a nervous day around here that's for sure, If the wind hadn't changed direction when it did our place would have been toast. What was more nerve racking were the fires on Eyre peninsular. I have friends there and for a few hours anyway we weren't able to contact them.

As for compairing this situation with the tsunami, I just don't think you can. Both are tragic events in their own way.
We have donated to the tsunami appeal and have started gathering things for the red cross to pass onto the people on the Eyre Peninsular. Both are horrible and unfortunate events and the aid agencies should be supported in both situations.

The Adelaide fire was arson started ...those mongrels should be burned at the stake slowly.
I agree with this part of your post,

    Pete,

I didn't think for a second that you thought we shouldn't contribute, what I didn't agree with was this comment.

What annoyed me with the tsunami was the oil rich Islamic countries offered less than a days oil earnings to help their own but the 'despised christian countries' are in there helping without being asked for it.
Mainly because I didn't think it was appropriate to this forum, this however does not mean that you are not entitled to the opinion.

well here I am in the middle of Eyre Pen. Living just out of Cummins
Flamin scary (excuse the pun) it was Tuesday AM I was working about 70 k north and saw it pickup and start to spread gout back to our place grabbed family, dogs, family photos and computer discs all backup stuff. If the wind had kept its direction we would have lost the house but worse was loosing a new mates son. Another mate also got caught on the back of CFS volenteer fire trucks twice. then had to go slaughter livestock. He lost his parents for 5 hours from North Shields and his son lost his house. "Still theres worse than me" he says. Sorry guys but city slackers opps sorry slickers just dont stand up to the country. We are OK. Wont here much from me doing a seasonal business 12-14 hours 6 days week then six months off. regards Tonto
