    Default Our sneaky politicians

As usual the most obnoxious revisions to our laws are done largely under the radar. New law would jail a modern Oskar Schindler

Bi partisan support, it explains why the Human Rights Bill proposal had to be killed off quickly as well.

Yes, there is no doubt about the cunning and stupidity of our elected representatives.

I suspect that the impact of the laws was not explained to or understood by the goons who passed it.

Sebastian, I suspect your making a common mistake that politicians have actually have some sense.
Most seem to have a reactionary method of govt ie nobody complains then do nothing and or will get me re-elected.

As they say in Canberra you can 'bank on self interest'

The same article appears in today's Melbourne Age.
What on earth happened to the concept of the law of the sea? I always thought it was incumbent on any ship's captain to render assistance and/or pick up survivors at sea.
An even more frightening element is the statement from opposition spokesman, Scott Morrison, describing it as "too little, too late"!

One would think that the first time it got tried in court it would get tossed out. Seems to contradict so much logic. :dunce:

A friend once explained that the law has no logic.

He and his wife divorced with one minor child, 16 YO. He paid child support and eventually university tuition. His then ex-wife moved to the Chicago area and re-married. After three additional children, the new husband understood why the first husband divorced her and did the same. Husband #2 left without paying anything.

Now the ex-wife sues husband #1 for child support for the three additional children. Logic says, no way in H***, right? WRONG! The court says that husband #1 caused so much emotional distress that ex-wife just jumped into another and unwise marriage. Husband #1 is responsible for these children too. (The Illinois judicial system believes that the worst mother in the world is always better than the best father in the world.)

In frustration, husband #1 moves to Florida from California. Florida requires that all judgments be domiciled in Florida before they can be enforced.

    alls well that ends well.

The justice system: most folks go to court to get justice. But get only the law and thats all the courts are able to give in this enlightened age.
