Why should he have to say anything. It's one storm: that's weather, not climate.

Yes but he said quite specifically that the rains would never return and our dams would never fill, again, ever.

He made an unambigious statment - that this is how it's going to be and climate change has made it so. It wouldn't matter if he'd said the opera house will turn red because of climate change. He was wrong, unambigiously, and anyone with 3 brain cells knew it at the time.

But of course he's a "scientist" so he's pure and honest and can't be questioned or contadicted.

Or is it ok to lie about climate change and use the "it's weather" argument to excuse it ? and the opposite side of the coin every few weeks when they make outrageous statments about weather events and say it's caused by climate change ?

Here's what he said: "Since 2008, advances in climate change science have broadly confirmed that the earth is warming, that human activity is the cause of it and that the changes in the physical world are likely, if anything, to be more harmful than the earlier science had suggested."

His review was "an independent study of the impacts of climate change on the Australian economy." not a study of the impacts of climate change on weather events in Queensland.

This paper gives some more detail on the science of climate change if you're interested.

If you want to know about the impacts of climate change have a look at the CSIRO pages on climate change, for example: Climate model projections for the coming decades indicate an increasing risk of below average rainfall for southern and eastern mainland Australia, higher temperatures and evaporation, and below average runoff. In particular there is a significant projected increase in frequency of extremely hot years and extremely dry years.

By the way, our 'chief climate change advisor' is an economist, not a scientist and his advice is related to managing the economy, not science.

I'm with you Alex. The subtext of my reply is that he never has and never would make a comment on a scientific matter, only on economic matters.

I can tell you that it is bloody wet here at present... we had 3 or 4 days of storms & now we have cold, blowing rain.
2 nights ago we had every door & window open in the place, now it is shut tight & 17°C outside.

O.K. I'm getting a little sick of the Chicken Littles out there claiming global warming/climate change. Of course there's bloody climate change, it's been changing since the last ice age.

How the hell can you make predictions or create "climate model projections" when at best we only have 500 years of accurate weather records (my thoughts only) and and satelite weather information for the past 50 years.

To put this into perspective let's take a point in time 64,000 years ago (and we know the planet is much older than that) making predictions on 500 years of data is like predicting what a 64 year old person will do based on the last 6 months of his life.

Can someont tell me where the experts get the data to make these predictions?

What rain, it was a luverly 25 and sunny in Melbourne today. BTW Cliff, when does the REAL wet season start?

10 past Christmas & lasts til about a 1/4 past Easter.

This is just the build up mixed with a bit of left over Winter rain.
