    Default Swipe and get swiped

    FYI:

For the 2nd time in two years VISA notified my bank that my card details had been found on an unsecured listing.

As a policy, the bank cancels the card within ten days after this.

The bank says the most likely cause of the problem is a card being swiped (with Paywave etc, bypassing the PIN or signature) and it advises caution in using this option.

The card is a debit rather than credit card and I never have much cash in it so a sting is not going to hurt much but it's a pill having to memorise another PIN.
    Cheers, Ern

Unfortunately this happens, I impressed by the speed they catch this stuff nowadays. Its happened to me a few times as well.

Yeah. I was impressed a few years ago when I'd loaded the card account to pay ten grand for a motorbike at a dealer. Within minutes of the debit being made the bank rang my mobile to check.

Instead of memorising a 4 digit PIN I look for a single character that can be converted to a keypad pattern and direction.
    So U = 1793, C or O = 3179, N = 1739, + = 2846, if you know other scripts you can get a bit fancier e.g. greek letter lambda = 1597 etc.

If you are religious 2046 or 2846. Had this code at work and always thought of religion.
Another one might be steam locomotive numbers eg 3801.

A PIN has been sent for the new card but the bank advises that at some ATMs it's possible to change it. That wasn't the case with the two chipped cards I've had so far.
