    Default Anybody tried....

    theses new perpetual lettuce.??

SWMBO planted some and they are powering away. Every time you harvest it's only a short time to the next crop.

Ana planted several pots of stuff, including Basil and Coriander, into Seale's potting mix. Seems to do the trick. Good growth and the best and sharpest tasting herbs I've ever eaten.

Perpetual lettuce? Never heard of it. I am however very interested as my beloved offspring was given two guinea pigs for her birthday and they go through about $5 worth of gourmet lettuce a week. I'm growing some ordinary stuff at the moment but it's taking its time!

So, where can I get and roughly how long from planting the seed can I be harvesting?

Chief I would reduce the lettuce to the pigs ...it doesn't do them much good
    Cheers

It's not just lettuce in the mix, there's spinach and other associated green stuff. You know, the green pile you push to one side to get to the steak.

They don't actually eat $5 a week, the stuff's only good for two or three days then its chucked in the bin and a new bag opened. And its usually the $3-a-bag "Super supermarket ludicrously exhorbitanty overpriced grass clippings masquerading as food naturally selected gourmet leaves".

In the wild they eat grass.

I have an acre of lawn.

Yet after every shopping trip there is a fresh bag of garnish in the fridge.

Nevermind, give it another couple of months and they'll be big enough to cassarole.

Already made one; a 6' by 6' pine and chickenwire monstrocity. And made them an indoor fun run as well. They play outside for a couple of hours every afternoon, and get to play indoors too when the sproglet comes home from school. Unfortunately they don't get through as much grass as I'd like.

Too full of bloody lettuce .

On the patio I have a load of pots and tubs with various veggies, the fatter of my stupid cats enjoys munching on all the leaves. Except of course the catnip, which was planted specifically for them
