I wonder if the bids are legitimate. Rove did an ebay auction for charity last year and a bunch of dickheads bid it up to $10 million or so. Hope it doesn't happen this time.

As Grunt predicted, the idiots are about and stuffing things up for everybody. That bid has been removed by ebay but the current total is $145,000 !!

I don't know if EBay can pre-qualify bidders?

The current winning bid for the coins ($500,100) is from someone whose previous purchases include a drum machine and a car radio. If you had half a million, would you need to shop for a car radio on EBay?

That's wierd! I just checked and it has dropped back to $400,100 - same bidder

Perhaps the drum machine is coin operated.

Apparently they are contacting those bidders who seem to be playing games and then cancelling their bids.

If they are dummy bids and they win, the powers that be should publish the names of the idiots in the newspapers!!

If they are dummy bids and they win, they should be made to pay the purchase price. Your bid is a binding contract.

The problem is that I could get myself an email address from one of several dozen places, all anonymously and the log on to ebay and bid 4 billion dollars for it. They'll never find me.

Actually, they could track you down using your IP address, unless you know how to hack into someone else's PC.

Actually I'm surprised they haven't started asking for ID because anything illicit that goes on can be traced back to them.
