I watched the Mr Bates vs the post office dramatisation, but not following the actual events. I liked the series.

It appears that a Kiwi is quite central to whats been called the greatest miscarriage of justice Britain has ever seen. Rodric Williams - former Litigation Lawyer at Post Office Ltd and current Head of Legal (Remediation Unit) gave evidence to the Inquiry last week:

All I can say is if he's a Litigation Lawyer then I'm Henry the Eighth.

Wikipedia has an extensive post on the whole saga: British Post Office scandal - Wikipedia.

Talking of a scandal....The Post Office had the power to conduct private prosecutions against subpostmasters. Some were forced to pay back money they had been accused to have lost, others being handed down prison sentences etc etc.

It will be interesting to hear the full findings of the current enquiry!

    Cheers

It was like robot debt on steroids. Faulty computer software and arrogant and stupid managers. "The computer said you done it." Many sound postmasters had faulty accusations that they had stolen post office monies. Many were prosecuted and convicted and jailed and fined. Reputations lost. Businesses lost. Families implode. Some suicides.

It will be a nice little earner for the defamation lawyers!

I have only followed it to the extent that I have listened to a number of interviews with Andrew Bridgen MP, who may be the only honest politician in the UK, he was onto this from very early on and pushed for justice for a very long time. The post office scandal will pale into insignificance compared to the current scandal he is pushing to expose.

    Cheers Andrew

I watched the P.O. Inquiry this week, Angela van den Bogerd who was feature in the ITV series as one of Paula Vennells henchmen was questioned. The woman, and I use the term woman loosely, continued to lie to the point of
becoming comical. The hard faced narcissist sociopath showed zero emotion when being questioned by Jason Beer KC.

    Quite so, Yvan.

Lets hope that they sue both the Post Office and the senior executives responsible for the fiasco.

Hundreds of people have been falsely convicted, made bankrupt, imprisoned and not least of all, people have committed suicide.

So were talking perjury, perverting the course of justice & corporate manslaughter. The Post Office and its executives, lawyers and managers literally have blood on their hands. The organisation is rotten to the core and should be sold to Amazon for one pound like Alan Bates has said.

    Agreed!

Fujitsu Horizon, the software developer, should also be sued for every single penny they earned in the process, in addition to a huge fine to make it really hurt. They were tweaking the software trying to fix the bugs while it was being used. Sub-postmasters would find that their figures at the end of one day had changed by the next day !!!
