Excellent! Cars should be confiscated too. If you have ever been hit by an unlicensed, uninsured, unregistered driver you will understand why I like the idea.

So what do they do if all 6 cars are unregistered in that second????

No problem here as a MVA victim with an Acquired Brain Injury, its great getting idiot's off the road.

As the policeman in the story said,
when they cause injury or worse to people and property there is nothing that can be done without long expensive legal costs.

I like the idea of taking their car on the spot.

one of my workers got done on the M4 a few weeks back, no rego, no insurance, speeding and they hd been driving through the tolls on the M2 / M7 for a few weeks with no etag, they now owe about $5000 in fines.

so does he still work for you? What other corners does he cut?

Im with Crowie i dont see the problem.

As far as I can see, no-one has got a problem with this. Better that they get the unregistered, uninsured, unlicensed, free-loaders off the road.

It's not just one car - quite a few have the gear.
A couple of years ago, they were punching rego numbers into a computer as cars came into the local Westfield - picked up a heap of unregistered cars.

It used to be that, in SA at least, driving an unregistered vehicle carried an automatic 12 month licence disqualification. Not sure whether that is still the case and whether the same applies in other states.

Victoria is now also using those cameras, agree that people driving unregsitered and or unlicenced deserve all they get.

Now why do they need a vehicle why not just a camera with the same software then the officers who are manning the cameras would be free to apprehend the offenders.

I was "caught" by one of these camera a few months ago in a McDonalds Carpark. 22 years of pretty clean driving record, safe new insured and roadworthy car, always serviced and maintained. Have never in my life driven an unregistered vehicle. I NEVER drink and drive.

In this case I paid my insurance, my rego and my wife's rego in one afternoon almost a month before my rego was due (or thought I did). I submitted the invoice to my boss for reimbursement as part of my salary package, got paid and moved on. Turns out the payment for my rego never happened.

I got pulled over in Maccas 4 days after it was due and slapped with a $597 fine (Victoria). I paid the rego immediately. This was a Friday, on Monday the first and only reminder notice arrived.

Unlike some of the morons on the road driving unsafe unregistered and uninsured cars, I made a simple mistake.

The fine I received was same fine you receive for driving at twice the legal blood alcohol level. The fine I received was the same fine you receive by driving down a 50kmph side street at 100kmph. These actions risk the lives of innocent people. My actions did not endager life.

Hey Crowie, no offense intended mate given your experience but my point is just that the fines should be HUGE to protect victims but there must be some allowance for intent when issuing fines for very short term breaches. I honestly don't know how the TAC claim would play out in the case of a 4 day unregistered car being involved in an accident.

Anyway, live and learn. I am awaiting the court case so I can plead stupidity and hope for a reasonable magistrate.

yea he is a factory hand, so aslong as the rubbish finds it way into the bin its all good, the car was actual for sale for $600 which he was waiting to sell to buy another car instead of getting rego. some people just dont get it.

I do. The TAC pays out all costs as usual to the injured party BUT they will sue the driver/owner of the unregistered car for full reimbursement.

I know someone who is still paying his mortgage he had to take out to cover the cost of his accident (both TAC and the insurance company's) after 10 years.
