    Question What would you do?

I have written about the problem I had with NPH and the hassle with the GP.
I have a couple of beefs about him and am wondering about referring him to
    some sort of complaints department.

This same doctor dealt with the daughter of a friend of ours. She has a tumor
or cyst near her bladder. This same doctor REFUSED to order a specific test
for her that would have picked up cancer!!

I think his arrogance needs to be sorted.

At the end of the day it's your body and you know best.
If you need to, insist on the tests and if the Doc won't do them find another doc.
If you read my thread below, I insisted on the diabetes test and found out I have type 2 diabetes - not happy to have it but glad to know now when it's relatively mild and more easily treatable.

As for complaining, I'm not sure arrogance is an issue unless it leads to mistreatment of patients - he is going to argue that he is the medical expert, that (A) you pay for his expertise and that (B) he is under pressure to put pressure on the system by ordering unecessary tests.
I'm not defending him, just saying that is what he will say.

True Smidsy but there is a part of what went on that I will not mention here.
That, combined with his initial refusal to refer me, when - if he is the one with
the expertise for which I pay, in my opinion is neglect.

Being happy or not with a correct diagnosis, which was made thanks to the scans,
is not any sort of issue.

My point is that the diagnosis was there and he refused to refer me to a specialist.
That, in this day and age is plain wrong.

I have private insurance so cost should not be an issue either.

Second opinion time I guess. My partner's doctor is the type that "doesn't want to order unnecessary invasive tests". I would have thought that if a bloke finally goes to the doc you should take them seriously.

One of my cousins was sent away by her GP after she noticed a breast lump. She tried a few weeks later and then again a month after that. Ended up being rushed into hospital for a double masectomy and now has stage 4 in her spine and liver.

Get a second opinion... please. The complaints and negligence action can come later,

My advice would be to contact the HCCC health care complaints commission to seek advice on what your options are. You could also review the AHPRA website ( professional registration website ) to review the code of conduct should be there as a link.
Havent looked but the Medicare local website may specify the avenue if your GP is part of one of these.

Same sort of doctor that has killed a friend of mine - she is just not ready to jump into the pine box yet but she has cancer everywhere from an undiagnosed breast cancer - dweeb doctor refused to sign off on a breast screening even though she had a family history of breast cancer. She refused to make a complaint because she lives in the country & there are not enough doctors there, you have to book 3 months ahead for a GP visit.

If you have the choice, find another doctor, then if he/she seems OK, make a complaint - check out the procedure & ask that your identity be supressed - some nutters (psychopath is the technical term - they like positions of authority but are usually incompetent) can get very nasty.
