    Angry Windows 98SE and PC-cillin 2006

Because my PC-cillin 2005 rang out I bought the up grade to 2006. After installing it, my computer was as slow as the second coming and would hang on shut down.
Even though my computer (in theory) will run 2006 I found it will not.
Has anyone else found this problem.
I have now unistalled it and installed AVG freeware and Zonealarms, and it runs like a charm.
As there are now a whole bunch of programs that will not run on the Windows 98Se it would appear that the answer a new computer and Windows XP.
How many still run Windows 98SE.

    Thanks Macca2:

Ya should've moved to AVG months ago, ya dill!

I've found the same thing with lack of support for "older" OS's, but then again I've plenty of old SW that won't run under modern OS's. Hell, I've even some that won't run on a modern motherboard! There's naught worse than trying to install DOS and having EMM386 come up with irresolvable memory errors... but I've an old P2-300 in my LAN running W98SE that's a definite keeper.

The rest of my LAN runs W2K... that cosmetic piece of code-bloat, wassisname? XP? gets all the system space it deserves: been installed on a removable bay which was immediately thrown onto the top shelf.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Couldn't agree more about AVG. Noone should be running Not-on. As for the XP issue, I run 2K on my older machines, but have found that XP ("pro", I can't comment on "Home") is substantially faster than 2K on decent spec P4 machines, so have that on the gaming machines (for the kids, naturally). urn all the candy off and don't let it manage anything itself, just like 2K. Especially for graphics-intensive apps it's noticeably better.
    Cheers,
    Craig
