Thread: Alaskan Chain saw mill mods

Yeah I know I should be slabbing logs but I can't use the chainsaw in the evening so I thought I'd fart about with a few chainsaw mill mods.

The first picture shows the CS bar length adjustment knob (RHS of Picture) that replaces the simple pair of nuts I was using previously . I was going to make this a crank but the knob works very easily and it's not like the CS bar length will be changed all that frequently. The other mod that shows in this picture is a wheel/roller added to the bottom LHS skid. I got this idea from the Aboriste forum where "Rollermatic" does not even use any skids at all - just a single roller. This wheel rides on the side of the log and allows you to more easily turn and angle the saw to the log and supposedly makes for easier cutting. A close up of the wheel is shown in the second picture - you should be able to guess its origin. The wheel and it's shaft are completely removable if needs be.

The other mod is a set of cranks for the vertical cutting adjustment. The cranks are made of ally plate with SS knobs - all from the scraps bin at work. The cranks work great.

I'm just itching to try this out. A guy at work is giving me a small spotted gum log to play with soon hopefully.
