And on the seventh day the atheist found Bloodwood.
So , this morning once caffeine levels had normalised from the absence during the night,
Make that late morning [emoji3064].
I commenced working on the Table Cloth Mitre Plane.
First up , 23/25 mm x 3 mm piece of brass was cut to reveal a Cupid Bow( no it’s not a space invader).
And riveted on to the A0 Tool steel blade at the top end of town.
Unfortunately ,one of the rivets has come out
slightly larger than the other, this is no doubt due to the steel nail I cut ,both rivets from and nothing to do with me.
Opinions on this will be welcomed tho be careful cause Sally likes it!.
After that, a suitable radius jig ,was found third plate down on the left, and once I had finished licking all the cake crumbs off from my extravagant lunch ,of a cup of soup and cake,
The plane received a slight radius pattern on both ends that was then you guessed it ,filed to suit.
I’m quite pleased with that.
Next the piece of Bloowood was careful filed and scraped till it was tight snug fit in the front creating the bun,
This was filed more to resemble the coffin top, is that the right term, note sure.
Then the rear bun was also shaped to follow the new lines of the rear radius end.
An that is the end of play for today.
A few note points :
Yes I over countersunk the rivet hole, hence why one is slightly larger tho it’s not visible from Ten metres away.
The A0 Tool steel is still in a soft state, and was a dream to drill through, an I may in the future build a whole plane body from it, I think it may peen well, just a gut feeling.
The bloodwood filed an scraped beautifully, but is prone to being chipped easily.
Cheers Matt.

Also please note this is my adoptive creative zone , I dare not clean up and through out 67 various containers containing who knows what,
Neil is very fond of his um stuff.
But I’m grateful for the use of space an assorted stuff.

Matt
That is looking good but the dining table seems a bit the worse for wear! Perhaps it was always like that under the table cloth...

Hmmm, reminds me of those ancient Greek statues where one side always hangs lower than the other.....
I'm assuming AO is a typo & you meant O1? In which case, yes, it will peen quite satisfactorily in its annealed sate. It is good to work with, comes lovely & clean & straight & flat - none of the faffing about (& plain hard yakka) you face cleaning up hot-rolled mild steel.
And rule of thumb - the harder the wood, the better it scrapes (& the hotter your fingers get!)...
Cheers,IW

"Tablecloth mitre plane" has a nice ring to it. Tell Sally I love the fancy brass detailing on the end of the blade. And the bloodwood looks bloodgood, really bloodgood

Sorry, I'm still stuck on the composition of your lunch. Cup of soup and a piece of cake? You mixed lunch and afternoon tea? Is nothing sacred any more?

If my shed floor was that dirty I wouldn't be happy either. I can understand why Sally may be salty.
P.S. Why did your father in law paint an arrow on his floor? Seems rather eccentric.
The plane looks great by the way.
