Default Australian Wood Review No 63

Got the mag late last night, with a beautiful assortment of hand tools on the cover, including a familiar brace. Flicked through the mag and there is an article from a certain member of this board. This member also won a prize for his brace.

Any other members go in the hand tool competition?

    Default Derek Cohen and AWR

It's not often that one of the Forum members is published in Australian Wood Review, so when it happens it is certainly worthy of celebration.
Derek has a review of the Marcou S15 smoothing plane on page 8 and is also honoured for his winning entry in the Tools You Made competition.
These are quite wonderful accomplishments from a well respected woodworker whose passion is part time.
Congratulations Derek and we all bask a little in your reflected glory as fellow members of the forum.
    Well done
    SG

    Well I never!

Here I sit in Cape Town (celebrating my father's 95th birthday!) and left Perth before the mag came out, and NO IDEA AT ALL until this moment that I even got a mention. I still don't know what I won. Anyone let me know?

Thanks all for the kind words.

Regards from Perth ... ah .. Cape Town

I'm not sure of the category win, but the prizes are as follows:
Colen Clenton Rose she-oak cutting gauge, plus 8" square plus 45 degree marker.
    Value $588

Sounds pretty nice to me - congrats again

    Hi SG

Sounds pretty nice to me as well! I really wasn't expecting to win anything. AWR asked me to enter a tool. The last brace I made I gave away as a gift, so I took this opportunity to build another (this is only the second I have made). I thought that it may rate a kind word. Actually, the entry wasn't the brace - it was a brace and driver in a tool box. The tool box took 10x as long to built as did the brace. I'll wait to read the mag before posting any pictures.

    Regards from Cape town
