DIY Sliding Table for Triten Saw bench
It had came time to hang up the saddle and put my trusted MK 3 Triten bench out to pasture. It had served its purpose well over some 18 years.
I had recently purchased a second hand Table Saw with a sliding table attachment at a bargain price of $250.00.
When I first came to use the Triten MK 3 saw bench some 18years ago I quickly realised that there was a need for a sliding table to allow to cut up panels up to around 1200 long and 700 wide and decided to look around for a design. One day while browsing through the local library I came across a design featured in a magazine called " The best of Fine Woodworking July 1993".
Based on this article I built my set up adapted to work with my Triten set up.
The attached photo's are of the set up which has faithfully worked for me for over 15 years.
The sliding table consists of a track and a sliding carriage attached to folding legs that allow for the whole set up to be demounted and stacked away when not in use.
The track consists of 2 off 32 diam galvabond tubes attached to a timber spacer
( chipboard) set at about 290 centres and 1600mm long. The carriage consists of a chipboard top about 700mm square attached to an undercarriage with 50 x 50 aluminium angle support rails with 30 x 30 aluminium angles attached set at 45 deg to which is fitted the rollers. The rollers consist of 4 pair of Nylon Rollers set at a Vee formation, the rollers in my case I have used Henderson Door Track rollers 29mm diam.
The track is attached to the folding support legs with brackets that allow quick removal and adjustment so that the track is set up parallel to the saw. The table then slides onto the track.
The whole set up can be in operation in just a few minutes and cutting accurately.
For those that are interested I believe that by increasing the size of the tube rails, heavier rollers and larger table one could build a set up to match the Triten gear particular as it is unlikely in the near future to be marketed again in Australia.
Regards .
