Bit of metal work and a bit of wood work .
Yesterday was my birthday , and I thumbed my nose at the thought of going to work .(Appreciated the birthday greeting from the forums too ,thanks Neil)
I decided to stay at home and indulge in some some therapy .
I started and finished a small item that I had wanted to make for some time .
It is a pin vice chuck and wooden handle for use with needle files . If any one has used these files without a handle then you will know how pain full it can be .
The chuck and ferrule are turned from solid brass bar and the handle is a piece of hickory from an old shovel handle, stained to look like rosewood.
The chuck body extends back inside the handle as a tube ,which is threaded on the outside , and screwed and epoxied into the wooden handle. The ferrule is held on with epoxy and a stepped collar turned on the chuck shank.

God work. Recon it will do the job nicely.
Could probably made something similar to suit larger files. Dunno if its just me but always have issues keeping file handles on files.www.lockwoodcanvas.com.au
I will never be the person who has everything, not when someone keeps inventing so much cool new stuff to buy.

Thanks all , I actually used it on the week end and it works a treat ,no more cramps in the hands and fingers from trying to grip that tiny file shaft.
Jatt for my larger metal working files up to 12" I just buy those packets of plastic handles from supa cheap ,they work ok , might not look very traditional but they work. I did see some wooden file handles at M10 the other day ,but the ferrules look very thin and cheap.
