Brass mallet
Great work Violincrafter
Being an ex metalfaber ,boilermaker really, I am versed in the fabrication aspects of the project.
The problem for many of us is locating the sheet in the apparent dimensions shown. The sheet thickness appears by scaling against the 50mm od to be in the region of 1mm thick.
The engineering supply firm where I buy my brass from has in in rolls up to .5mm thick. It also has flat bar beginning from 3mm thick.
Given that you have us all excited and keen to start this attractive project could you please point us all to a vendor that stocks the sheet in the thickness suitbale to roll.
PS.I loved the strop but have found that a nice thick bullock leather if ypu can get it is much better than using an old belt. The leather needs to be hard and flat.
Ta very muchly

Just an insight!
Dear Mr Grahame Collins,
I would suggest that you refer to a brass and copper merchant in your state. They would be able to advise on the availability in your area. Im sure owing to your abilities you probably will produce one with ease.
I purchased some time ago various sheets, tube, bar, rounds, octagonal, and many other profiles of brass -and have stock piled it for future use. To be perfectly honest all the brass I used has been in my workshop and when I saw Mr Majors mallet I had an immediate idea, a plan formulated in my head within minutes. Just went out to my workshop and everything was there ready to be sized for fabrication.
Its just and idea that came to "fruition" almost immediately on the day and "lead alloy" gave me the concept for weight to line a "carcass" of brass tube.
My tube for the outer case is fairly thick gauge brass and was perfect for this exercise. Had I not the material already stocked then,,,,, I can understand that this for those wanting to undertake this project may be non feasable.
Oh and if anyone has any difficulty in getting raw material all is not lost!!!!
Carba-tec sells a brass mallet for carvers and this is very reasonably priced. I think about $25.00 but please refer to them exactly. Not sure of where its made? but mine is genuine AUSTRALIAN MADE, I guess thats a rarity in itself!
I just wanted to make it regardless of the effort because i like "fiddling". lol
Is'nt that just a sad state of affairs? Aussie made???? lol
Good luck with your creation if you indeed undertake it, but as I mentioned the carbatec mallet is an easier alternative unless of course there are others who are "stubborn fiddlers". lol
Cheers folks I hope you liked a bit of a different read and graphics to brighten your day
