Sorry that this order has stalled as I been unable to find a way to cost effectively cut the brass sheet into lengths for those partaking in the order.
One solution is proposed was using a Oxy torch to cut the sheet.
I am still looking around but I am down asking favors.
*EDIT* We may have a solution to our cutting problem.

Last week I emailed out a bunch of Engineering Cutting Places around Melbourne.
Got only one response, who suggested that they could guillotine it (Which George White Can do anyway, but there is the problem of edge deformation and the brass warping). The only other option given was to have it PE coated (No idea what that is) and then water cut. The problem is that that water cutting cost $20 per cut which is insane, plus a $50 setup fee. This makes water cutting not cost effective.
I am still waiting to see if someone on the forum can do us a favor cutting it up, failing that we need to consider just living with guillotine the sheet.

Hi Folks,
I've access to a metal bandsaw at work and I'm willing to respond to Thumbsucker's request to cut the brass sheet up for the group in the next few weeks. (School Holidays). The only provison is that I will take care in the cutting but will not say I can be 100% accurate. +- 1-2mm over 0.5m is all I will claim but... yer gets what ya pay 4 ... or not in this case. Should be dead square though.
So if folks can accept that I will try my best to be accurate and live with the odd little blip if i sneeze, cough or pass wind...
We can get this thing off the ground.

Agh! I'm about thiiis close to grabbing so brass for an infill plane. So much for saving my dosh
What's a good size to get for a smoother? I have absolutely no knowledge of such things.
Also...Would some 4mm stuff be good for HNT Gordon style shoulder planes?

Here is my list of who has ordered what. I have had trouble keeping up with who wants what, so can you please check back with me, if there is something misplaced.
Prices are ball park figures and I still need to confirm them with Lucky.
Here is the list of people who getting some of the 260 brass sheet.
Attachment 83814
Here is all other brass people have ordered
Attachment 83812
We still need members to pick up more of the 30 mm (900 mm unallocated), 10 mm (2000 unallocated) and 5.5 mm(2600 mm unallocated) Rod Round to make a full 3600 mm lengths.
If people need steel rod to use for a cross bar, I could pick some up at Bohler here in Melbourne and put it with your post packs.
We still have some have 640 mm of the 101 x 19.05 brass for lever caps left.

Funky I thought you ordered directly.
As for size, a smoother can be anything from 200 to 325 mm, depending on the design.
As for the 4 mm stuff, there has been a few people interested in getting some but not enough to buy a whole sheet of the 260 alloy brass. Unfortunately there is no way of getting 260 alloy unless you buy a whole sheet or are lucky to come across scrap and known enough to tell it from all the other types of brass alloy.
If enough people are interested in a 4 mm sheet in addition to the 6 mm sheet, I am sure we can make arrangements.
I will call lucky tomorrow and firm up the prices.

Lightwood how long are the Lever caps you have? My basic calculations say that about 60 - 80 mm would suffice. If that is the case we could get the 76.200 mm x 19 mm Alloy 380 Brass, rather then 101 mm x 19 mm, it would be cheaper with less waste?
I have started a thread on designing a Modern Dovetail Smoother here.

Here is the final layout as a pdf for the brass sheet with peoples names and dimensions. Kevjed is hoping to pick up the brass next week as he is on school holidays, I will send out a PM with payment details asap.
Please confirm that I have recorded your order correctly.
Ray153 and Thornburn I have given you 10 mm more then you asked for to simplify the cutting of the sheet on one of your pieces, each.
We still have some extra brass rod going. As we need to buy the brass in 3600 mm lengths to makes any appreciable savings. Otherwise we will pay more and get less.

TS,
The one I made is about 90mm, Spiers are 90mm, Mathieson about 95mm, Norris is smaller at 80. I think your estimate for the style you prefer is even smaller than those at 60mm
Tomorrow if I have time I will re check the ratio between the screw, the pin, and contact at the bottom of a few more planes. That is another ratio to get right because of the mechanical advantage you get by increasing the length from the pivot to the screw.
I just went to your pdf. it looks about the same as mine 5 : 3 ratio ... which I think is good.
Regards,
Peter
