Default Cheapo, bodgy, Kmart homemade vacuum press

I packed my snow gear away till our winter. For the first time, I bought some of those vacuum storage bags - the sort where you stick your clothes in and then apply the in end of a domestic vacuum cleaner.

Bloody amazing, all the air disappears and all the thermals, skivvies etc are compressed to a brick like consisistency and flat as a board.

It occured to me that these bags could be used, with a bit of care, in the workshop.

Any thoughts? I've never done any veneers, but it's on the list. This seems that it could be a simple and inexpensive alternative.

Incidentally, the bags are about $18 for four and are quite tough and durable.

    Lightbulb

You might have to be careful Vacuuming any stray Glue or even any Volatile Gasses through the Vacuum Cleaner:confused:
You might end up letting the Smoke out of the V/C Wires
    or
Might have little bits of V/C to pick up all over the room/workshoppee:eek:

    Dunno?????

Dunno about vacuum pressing wood, but I've found that some clothes do NOT spring back when released several months later, they stay rather compressed (

I have seen a site where they do it with the Vacuvin wine pump! Or at least it looks very similar...

    http://www.roarockit.com/rc_wood.php

I found it when looking for a vacuum pump for wood stabilisation. I don't know about the vacuum cleaner idea (it sounds OK to me), but maybe you should invest in a little GMC shop vac or something so you get to stay sleeping indoors...

The thought had occurred. I use a big one of them as a waterproof liner in my pack. Not sure if it will develop enough pressure. Let us know how you get on.
