    Nice work.
Did you use item 1 to make item 2?

G'day do you have any other details on your Golden Ratio Gauge & your Scatch Block & cutters as I may have an attempt at my first build of hand tools & it is something I'd use alot. Thanks Dan.

    Hi,
The answer to both is Australian Woodsmith, #97 for the scratch block and #102 for the gauge. My scratch block varied a bit as I messed up the cut to hold the cutters and had to make it shorter or start the arm again. Back copies are available and they have just brought out a DVD of all editions, which is quite good as you can just print out the page(s) you want and use them in the shop.
    Hope this is some help.
    Regards
    Hugh

Thank you just a couple of questions if I may ask how did you mess up the cutter arm? & is there any thing else I need to keep an eye out for? Thank you for your time Dan.

    Hi,
I tried to cut the slot with an el cheapo Japanese type pull saw and I went squewify, so i reverted to a back saw, it's still a bit off. I might have done better with the band saw. The plan has another wing nut farther along for an alternate blade position.
    Regards

That's a nice looking scratch block. I was fortunate to be able to attend the Garrett Hack cabinet course n Perth recently

Let me try that one again

I was fortunate to attend the Garrett Hack cabinet course in Perth recently and he showed us how to make a very simple scratch stock. I've used it to put a bead in shelves and am currently using it to do string inlaying. Is there a reason that you won't to such lengths with your tool? (Just curious)

    Hi,
Two reasons 1) I got sucked in by the pretty pictures in the mag. article.
    2) I wanted to put it in a club competition. (it got 3rd, after my carving tool box and another member's [of the club and this forum] jig.
    Regards

    Thumbs up

Hi Hugh, Great job on both tools, well done! I haven't made a scratch block yet, but a guy at work raves about one he made and used some years back, on spotted gum.

    Cheers,
