Default My second plane build - a palm plane

Raw materials were a piece of beech which had been cut from an old plane, found in my grandfathers tools, 16mm and 4mm round bar left over from my first plane build (challenge plane), a brass bolt, a shattered HSS cold saw blade and a brass floor tile bar from a demolition.

Sorry, I forgot to do progress shots but the finished product looks like this.

It's a gift for my uncle's 90th birthday next week.

What a cute little gift. Nicely done. I should have nephews like you. Er.. Perhaps I have to wait a bit longer.

    Picko,
That’s is a fantastic gift, if it was not next to the pen(Nice Seria by the way)
You would not realise how small it is.

Do you want to talk about your Tool building problem I hear it helps some what.

    Cheers Matt

Hi Picko. Tool building problem.....what problem?? Love it. What did you do to the blade re. tempering? I was told that using metal from a "brobo" blade meant I could avoid all heat treating and I have made one blade but I'm not sure it was successful (the problem may also be in the plane itself)

Thanks Matt, but what problem. Anyway, if there was a problem I don't have time to talk about it because I've got a box full of plane blades that need somewhere to live.

Thanks MA. The HSS doesn't need treating but some say the edge will not be as "keen" as tool steel. I have plenty of HSS turning tools and the edge that I can get on those is equal to or better than my turning technique. I have made a meat clever from the same blade and it has certainly worked as expected. We don't have problem....do we? I think Matt needs to look at himself.

So there’s more to come, excellent.

    Cheers Matt.
