Drill press table
Well, without further ado, here is my drill press table which has taken 365 days to complete . I bought the T-track from the Sydney wood show LAST YEAR, and finished it today .
The first pic is it (obviously!). Its 2 layers of 16mm chipboard laminex with Jarrah edging, around 500mm by 750mm. The gold T Track is from PWS at last year's show, the silver T Track and all hold-downs and knobs were picked up from McJings yesterday.
I didn't get a pic of it with the fence stops on, which can also act as hold downs for when I drill smaller pieces.
Second pic shows an MDF insert so when it gets too 'drilled' I just slot in another piece of MDF. I can also easily modify the MDF insert to fit various drum sander sizes if I ever get a drum sander accessory kit. The holes in each corner make it easy to get out.
Third pic shows the back. Just used some aluminium angle to hold the fence.
Last pic shows how I hold it to the drill press table. You can see the lower layer of 16mm chipboard here. It has 2 x T Tracks in it, which hold 2 McJings hold downs, which are then tightened to the table. These two seem enough - I can't budge the table with them tightened.
Can't wait to use it, like I said, I've been 'meaning to get around to it' for a year now, and have wished it was completed many times!
Thanks for looking,
Nathan.

Nathan that looks great
I like your double action original table, might have to look to doing something similar.
I know feel guilty mine isn't completed but if I wait 365 I'd be

Very nice. I like your idea for the insert. I use a round piece of mdf cut with a holesaw cutter but I like your idea better.....

I've been after some hold-downs like that for my drill press table - there is an Incra version, but Carbatec never seem to have them in stock. Not cheap either....
I'll be going to McJings next week, so should be able to (finally) get some.

Thanks for the replies and comments everyone. I showed my wife who has been away for the week, for some reason she just wasn't as excited as I was
The hold downs from McJings look to be good John. Nice and solid (wheelin told me they also do a non-solid version, so get the solid ones). They are priced at $10 each, so decent value. I just had to grind down the sides of the bolt heads a few mm to make them slide easier in the track (especially in the gold coloured track which is a bit narrower).
You can't see your jointer in those pics John, but trust me, she's going strong!
Nathan.

Nathan - sorry, the nic didn't click (so to speak). Glad to hear that the mighty jointer is happy in its new home........
Now you've gone and inspired me to make up a new drill press table. Some very good ideas in yours, and the inserts are a much better idea than my sliding arrangement (which I built to such tight tolerances that it doesn't like temperature changes.....)
It'll be my first visit to McJings this week, so I'll add the hold downs to the shopping list !!
Cheers

Forgot to mention the hold downs come with different size bolts
This aluminum extrusions 3/4" (19mm ) T-Track fits M8 or 5/16" bolts (13mm head ). The lengths are available in 2505mm long $35 ( pick up only ). Please contact us for current stock lengths.
Create special jigs, positioners and hold-downs to suit your work and save hours of set-up time! Double side use hold-down clamp plus a knob and 1/4"-20 (M6) or 5/16"-18 (M8) sliding bolt. Hold-downs work from 0" to 2-1/2" thick.

I looked at the T-track from McJings on Sat at the show... wishing I had picked some up nowIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

John, take your shopping list to McJing, get all on the list, then go for a look at all the rest of their stock and don't forget to look under the tables as well. You can easily misplace a few hours in there "just looking"

John if you let Pat & myself know your coming through we might be able to meet you there so we can spend more of your money for you. Trouble is we'll spend our own too
Imagine an on mass forumite visit to McJings

Ray - I'll need to find my way around, so I figure a couple of hours at McJings should do it..... . Famous last words. At least I won't come home with a new lathe, unlike SOME people we could mention .
I also have to head into Carbatec to pick up the Veritas Scraper Plane that I ordered over the show weekend (10% discount and all that).
I already have some Veritas cam clamps, so I'll find T-track to fit, and then make sure anything else I buy fits that same track.
Nathan - I'm afraid that a drill press table won't cut it for SWMBO; she's hanging out for that nice dovetailed jewellery box , which you then get to fill up with shiny things. Speaking of which, when you visit Shiny Things 'R' Us, those numbers on the little white labels aren't stock codes - they are PRICES

Now there's a thought.
I'm in a 4wd club and one of the committee (not sure what his title is, publicity or something) often arranges member only nights at camping stores, 4wd shops etc where members only are welcome, often discounts up to 15% is offered on the night to get the wallets out and some even put on a suasage sizzle etc. These are generally well attended and when you can go to a business such as McJing and say we have x members who are all enthusiasts and all like to spend their money on WW tools (whether they need them or not ) I would imagine they'd be interested. Some of the 4wd club nights have been successful enough to become annual events.
Wouldn't that be nice, our own little woodwork show .
