Especially for "Specialist"....and all the mates of course...
Good day Mates
On other post, "Specialist" saw my "cordless" - "corded" drill and said "I wonder how I'd go hooking my dewalt up to the car battery"
So, for you Robert and all the mates that are interested, here it is...
Sorry, I did not "decorate" the pics with text. The text is above every pic.
Regards
niki
This is one of those $20, Made in Chiwan drills (with 2 Batt packs) that the Batt. went "caput"....as expected, after 3~4 months....
I removed the Batt pack, drilled a hole from behind and pushed a cord.
The wire thickness is 1½~2mm
Close-up...the wires are soldered to the connections
At the end of the cord, you can connect two "Crocodiles" and connect it to your car Battery.
It does not matter how you connect the + and the - it will effect only the rotation direction that you can change on the drill (L R)
If you want to use a Lead/Acid battery, buy only the "sealed" (Jell) Batt. (the one that is used in kids tracks etc.) Usually they are of 5AH and that's enough for very long time.
I'm using the car "quick disconnect" connectors...if you are not sure how to do it, ask a car sparki....Break the locking latch, so if you pull strong or the Batt falls, the cord will disconnect.
I connected a strap to the 12V Batt for easy carry on the shoulder
I made even connection to my flash light that has a 6V, 4AH "Sealed" Batt.
12V drill works very good on 6V, just at a lower speed...
My charging station...all the chargers are connected through timers that are set to charge at mid-night...during the winter, that I don't work with the drills every day, I set the timers to 15~30 minutes per night, just to keep the Batt's "alive".
I have a transformer that can supply 12VDC up to 300W (or 25A) and usually, in the garage, I use the transformer. The cords are 2½~3 Meters long.

Niki, I am a little confused.

I thought you were running the electric drills directly through 12v DC transformers.
So why a charging station for the drills?woody U.K.

Hi DW
The charging station is not for the drills but, for the 6V and 12V lead/acid batteries.
I said that "usually, in the garage, I use the transformer" (above the last pic) but, I also work with those drills in the house or go for "house call" for the family and sometimes, if the cords are too short, I work with the batteries even in the garage so, I have to keep them alive
BTW, my Jig-saw is also working on the 12V batt.

Niki uses the Pole (Polish) method sticks it straight through
just sent this thread to my son who's not a forumite but has a collection of useless battery drills.
At least I ow have a use for my car battery charger Niki other than sitting around for years gathering dust till it has to be used on the car.

Thank you niki for the step by step, it stands to reason that one could use a drill like that, but have never really thought about it. Maybe the collection of useless drills in my shed will have a second life.
Never could throw the damn things away
