Default Fine adjustment of TS fence

I'm building version 4 table fence. Extended rail is in place and steel fence in progress .

I want to look at installing a threaded rod slightly longer than the length of the rail and parallel to the rail. The rod will be free to travel at both ends. A knurled threaded handle to be at one end of the rod. This handle is to be scured either side to allow the rod to travel either way when the handle is turned.

Two nuts will be fitted to one end of the rod and locked against each other. A small section of rail fitting around these two nuts will prevent the rod from rotation but not from traversing in the rail.

Finally there is to be an easy to release and secure clamp fitted on the fence and around the rod. When the fine adjustment is required the clamp is secured and the knurled handle turned to move the threaed rod.

Has anyone done some like this before as a retrofit?

Not for sawing but for adjusting the TS fence for use with a router. See this thread.

Works OK but can't say I have used it much, just haven't needed to do the repetitive tasks that would require this level of control. I tend to use a digital caliper to measure my TS blade to fence distances up to 200 mm. Between 200 and 400 I uses a steel ruler and above that a tape measure.

I'd be interested to see what you make.

    Cheers

    Default Maybe a better option

    BobL,

Thanks for that. I'm now having a re-think based on that thread. I'm now thinking about a clamp with an thread adjsutable stop.

The new fence now seems so heavy that I am going to have to look at making it easier to move.

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
That's my problem too but I can lighten mine considerably by removing the router side fence. I was reluctant to remove the router fence because I thought I would use my router in the table much more than I have but one year on I find I am not using it much so I plan to leave the router fence off until I need it. Then a clamp/thread stop becomes viable for me too!

I have had an idea for some time, but not finessed it. The problem as I see it is we make a subjective judgement when using a fence based on what we see when the fence is brought up to a wanted measurement, let's say 200mm. Now you might judge it slightly different to me and this is what the Incra and like systems are eliminating. Now I don't know if I want an Incra so I have been thinking about a threade rod with a turning adjustment as blackout proposes. What I intended doing though was get a length of stock that had a 1mm pitch, so if you zero the fence at a given measurement and wanted to move it, lift a latch that locked into the thread, move it and it should finish at exactly that mm measurement not plus or minus anything.
