Someones stupid idea to use a saw for something it was never intended to do... great aussie invention.

I was going to post something similar - i.e. "Looks like the Triton prototype to me!" but thought it might draw too much flak from the lovers of orange-painted pressed steel.........

Actually, I think it is the fair dinkum article for something like ripping 2nd hand timber from a scrap yard. That's what I would use it for, after I fixed up the power plug and clamped a fence to it

Around here, the boy and girl fittings look the same from the cord's vantage point. But did none of you notice the cord passing through the belt?

A cage, e.g. hardware cloth, for the belt, would be a good addition.

    Cheers,
    Joe

    And a riving knife.....and a guard.....and a power switch you can reach.....

Makes the GMC saws at Bunnies look like good value doesn't it?

See the home-made stuff around quite a bit here......I'd only buy one for the motor though.

I'd swap it in a flash for the piece of junk site saw that I bought from Have-a-go. The table flexes, the fence flexes and the arbor wobbles. I can't cut a thing with it without clouds of acrid smoke billowing out of it.

    Default Niki

I was unaware Niki had passed away. Is this true?

I did a search under 'Niki' and couldn't find anything - perhaps there is more somewhere else.I do recall one of his posting mentioning he had been incapacitated with (I think) an ongoing illness.

How could you not be inspired by his enthusiasm and creativity.

I built a house with a saw like that. Washing machine motor, plummer blocks, you get the picture. We didn't have OH&S in the sixties and no one could buy a table saw.

Hey WW if you produce the kind of stuff you post on the forum with a saw like that, Just imagine what sort of a project you could turn out with a "good" saw

The only power saw I use to make furniture is the little 12" Triton bandsaw which is really in the same category as the wobbly pressed tin table saw.

    Default shop built tools

Speaking of home made tools - if you haven't seen the shopbuilttools user group on Yahoo, check it out.

I remember seeing a big table saw powered by an old Yamaha 650 motorbike engine. Some of the stuff's very good though.
