Default Jig for cutting large Melamine with circular saw

    Hi,
Does anyone know of a jig for cutting large pieces of melamine accurately and chip free using a normal circular saw? Im in the process of purchasing a CMT melamine blade to help with the chiping. I was going to purchase the festo plunge cutting circular saw with the guide rails. I know these saws are fantastic but how many people can afford a $800+ circular saw?

Just after a jig thats similar to the fest guide rail system that can be home made and cuts 1200mm by 600mm melamine with a breeze!

    Thanks

    Joseph

I know its not a home made jig but I saw it at the WWW show and must admit I liked what I saw. It was around the $250 mark and looked like it was worth the money. It will certainly do what you want and more.

You can get additional lengths to get over 2400mm cutting length. I think from memory with a router plate and additional lengths the cost was about $300. Give them a call and ask them for the show price.

There is also the Veritas Power Tool Guide Available at Carbatec. Works very well.

Does pre-scoring the melamine with a knife work? Gotta be cheaper than a new saw, jigs, etc. ...?
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them . . . well, I have others.

Check out the EZ Smart system... A guide rail with attachments that provide zero clearance for circular saws and is quick and easy to set up and works great for melamine etc. A bit costly for a guide rail, but well worth the investment if you are going to use it more than a handful of times.

As one of those who bought the Ausangle at Brisbane TWWW Show, I think you might find it disappointing. I don't want to denigrate an Australian invention, but, briefly, I would say it has potential but needs a bit more development.
Several weeks ago I emailed the makers with some of the shortcomings & annoyances & suggested improvements but have had no acknowledgement.

    Kind regards
    Brian

Good to hear from someone who owns one. What are the shortcomings you had noticed. I came close to buying one.
