    Default New mini turning chisels

I scored some HSS steel chisel blanks from the WWW show last week. I made the handles from my dwindling Rose Sheoak supply and used some brass tube for the ferrules. Now I have 3/16 and 5/16 detail gouges and a 3/16 skew .

    Handy!

I wish mine looked half as nice.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Looks like a lovely grip for carving chisels... but do you really hold them like that when turning?

I still use a two-handed-grip. Well, sorta... thumb 'n two fingers up on the toolrest and thumb 'n finger on the end of the handle.

Yes, sort of. I hold the handle with one hand, the other hand holds the steel with the thumb and two fingers, the other fingers support the finial. See Cindy Drozda's finial box demo under AAW here (although it is about 13mins into the video )
